The A8 target would have been 48K so they could be run on the 400/800 machines.

 

One main Z3 to Z4/5 difference was the total z-file size rising from 128K to 256K and so with would have meant moving to more than one double-sided disk.

 

I would imagine that the declining market size and historical A8 sales meant that making updated interpreters for it just wasn't worth it.
