Popular Post bocianu
Since I managed to finish the game I've been working on for the last 9 months, I can finally show you a little bit of what awaits you soon. I didn't write too much before, because I don't like to show off an unfinished product, but probably there were already some leaks, so I'll throw in some new spoilers Game Title: Flob Game Type: Arcade Adventure platformer. Size: ~400KB Media: cartridge Controls: Joystick / keyboard Requirements: Atari XL/XE (64KB), stereo as an option, works both on PAL and NTSC machines Written in Mad-Pascal/Mad Assembler. Idea/code/graphics/sfx: bocianu Music: LiSU, Miker, AceMan, PG, Zoltar X Hardware design and production: Mq In the game we move around Flob, a small pink blob that loses energy very quickly and we have to constantly replenish it by collecting drops of pink slime. Flob can only move left and right and cannot jump, but by using the slime, he can manipulate gravity and get into seemingly inaccessible places. He is very fragile and delicate, but with a supply of slime he can regenerate quickly. We need a lot of slime and we need to collect as much as possible, but that is not the aim of the game. The goal is to find the secret ingredients and the recipe needed to produce the aforementioned slime, achieve immortality and... rule the world There are 6 large, hand-drawn maps to visit, each of which consists of over 20 rooms and has a separate music track. Levels differ from each other in mood, puzzles and level of difficulty. Each of them has a few hidden rooms, the discovery of which will give us a big shot of slime. The game has a system of achievements, which are 84 and we gradually unlock them during the game. Game progress is automatically saved on a cartridge. I think it's a lot of fun, because when I play fast and know the maps well, it takes me about an hour to complete the whole game. For a person who doesn't know the maps, it will certainly be several hours of fun, not to mention how long it may take to complete all available achievements. The premiere of the game will take place at "LOST Party" in Lichen on July 10th - during The Game Compo. According to the compo rules, the game will be released on the day of the competition for FREE, but for all collectors and people who want to support the authors, a physical version of the game has been prepared. It will be available for purchase at the party and by mail after the party, and the price is 49USD + shipping cost. If you are interested in buying the game, leave a message in this thread. Shipping will start not earlier than the end of July after our well deserved vacations. The purchase of the original media entitles you to free, lifetime updates of the game, which perhaps will appear in case of discovering some errors, or adding new DLC content by the author Cover ART spoiler: Edited June 22, 2021 by bocianu typo 44
Beeblebrox
@bocianu a massive congratulations for creating and completing such an amazing game. It looks unique and the work that has gone into it clearly shows. Looking forward to playing it in the near future. I'd definitely be interested in buying a copy when available. Mclaneinc
Flob in the UK is a euphemism for phlegm, ie green nose secretion from a cold that you spit up.. Put me off for a sec but the screens look great.. 2

+Mr Robot
What a terrific looking game, flipping the screen to navigate the obstacles is a really interesting game mechanic. I was expecting to see the flob stretch to get through small gaps, lay flat to avoid dangers etc. like putty did on the Amiga. I didn't expect the screen flipping. Looking forward to this

Screen flipping as part of the problem solving aspect is a genius element. (I had the same reaction when first discovering the excellent Ridiculous Reality mechanics). The speed and fluidity of the main character physics is great. I like the hint text system. Seriously can't wait to play this. I take it you have Sophia1/2 installed or is this recorded in an emulator? Would be interested to see what the screen looked like on a stock display output. To echo zbyti's comment this may very well turn out to be one of the best platformers on A8.

This video was recorded using Altirra emulator, but I had opportunity to play it on CRT display, and it looks quite nice IMHO. Zbyti was one of my testers (most dedicated). He is a real pro in this game. I will show you his amazing flawless, speedruns on these maps, but everything after the release. Beeblebrox
@bocianu Great, I'll be initially running it on my Dell 2007fpb 20" flatscreen monitor via shielded S-Video cable (thru an upscaler) on my 65XE (320k) Stereo A8. Latter is currently giving me crappy jailbars but I think I'll be upgrading to Sophia 2 at some stage anyway. I have Retroscaler 2x coming which I'll try first, mainly because I have 2 x other A8s and can't upgrade all 3 of them to Sophia 2. (Wallet a lil tight and I've just invested in an U1MB ). I wanted a Retrotink 2x or 2x mini but you just can't source them in the UK unless you pay a ton of cash to get em shipped over from the US. Hey, I assume FloB's announcement will be featuring on the front pages of Indieretronews.com (http://www.indieretronews.com/search/label/Atari XE), complete with images and the video? It's always nice to see them shout about A8 games over there and keep the other 8 bit communities up to speed with all things Atari. Oh and I agree with @Mq., letting the players play and discover the many worlds/rooms post release is defo the way to go before any spoilers. thanks again Edited June 23, 2021 by Beeblebrox typos
