Two absolute belters for this week ?. On the downside, it does mean that there is no prospect at all of me improving my Popeye score. These two will take up any time I get to play this weekend, meaning there is no chance of me going back to Popeye ?

And while we're at it, here's a score for Galaxians to start us off. Being the first one to submit a score, I haven't got the first clue whether this is good, bad, or indifferent

Asteroids - 23280

Finally a passable game after, like, another hour :(

This is reminding me, game by reset game, how much better 7800 Asteroids is ?

The collision detection is just really off. Shots that directly hit tinyroids harmlessly pass through, and medium sized asteroids with two pixels of clearance destroy you. I regularly destroy asteroids I should have missed and vice versa. It’s a little sad. Maybe it’s because I’m playing on a 7800?

Asteroids: Rollage (100,000+)

I was hoping to end the game at 99,990, but at 99,950, a saucer appeared and hit the 20 point large asteroid I shot at, causing me to hit a 50 point asteroid instead, rolling the score.

@Vocelli, I would recommend setting rollage to 99,000 for this game.

My strategy is to clear the right half of the screen first since the game seems to place your ship slightly to the right and it seems like you can blast away asteroids faster to the right than to the left.  If you shoot straight to the right, your shot barely wraps around the screen, but if you shoot straight left, you may miss an asteroid at the edge.  Once the right side is clear, then I aim for whatever is heading my way and try to take down the saucers when they appear.

When the board has only a few asteroids or you're trying to hit a saucer, be patient and don't fire until you have a clear shot.  You can only have two shots on the screen at once, so if you miss with both shots, you have to wait for one of your shots to leave the screen before being able to shoot again.

I never use the thrust and always just stay in the middle of the screen.  I don't hunt saucers since I'm not very good at this technique and I found it to be more risky than just blasting away at the asteroids.  I prefer when the saucers appear when the screen is full of asteroids which act as a shield from their fire.

It's not the 7800.  The same collision issues happen on the 2600.  I died a few times by taking down my shield a little too soon a few times, even though I should have been clear of the asteroid.  It took me awhile to get used to this timing.

I also had sometimes issues getting the fire button to respond.  I'm not sure if it's the game or if my joystick is wearing out.  I guess I'll find out when I start playing another game.

I love the old school TV.  It's the same cabinet my family had when I was a kid, although the channel display was different.  Unfortunately, I seldom got to play Atari on the good TV in the living room.  The Atari was on a cheapo TV in the basement.
