alfredtdk Posted December 19, 2021 Share Posted December 19, 2021 (edited) In this hack I wanted to bring a little more fidelity to the Arcade version, with bigger and more rustic rolling rocks with boulder aspects, monkeys on vines and a boiler on the fire in the final scene adapted from the original sprites. I tried to get as close as possible to the final scene. The rope that immobilizes her wanted to reference in those blank pixels above her head. I want to bring the character even closer to his Arcade counterpart. The hunter, for example, wears boots, something that doesn't appear in the 2600 version, I wondered why a guy would take a walk in a wild forest completely barefoot, as Mr. Spock would say "That's illogical!" ? The original was Jungle King that has a Tarzan like dude instead of the explorer and a sample of the classic Tarzan yell, but is mostly the same as Jungle Hunt. There's a third version named Pirate Pete with even more differences. Most of the music has been changed, some stages have new obstacles (snakes in the rock stage and a knife thrower in the final scene), and the graphics have a been overhauled. (NTSC version) At first I wanted two types of clothes for the hunter in the same ROM, but after analyzing I saw that the best is to be the same set of pieces on your journey. I also make available a ROM with new clothes in khaki colors. If there was a way to add a soundtrack like Arcade, it would be closing this version with a flourish. I hope you like it. Removed the white forest track, more faithful to the original version 2600. Oxygen meter now with orange color, corals with a single light color. Darker rolling stones, third-level lawn with lighter, more pleasant colors. Cannibal with a lightened green color, caldera flames brightened as well. In my opinion, it matches the hunter's khaki-colored clothing. There was also a new change in the color palette of the cannibals. alfredtdk Posted March 18, 2022 Author Share Posted March 18, 2022 JHA - CANIBAL COLORS (NTSC version) This is the Arcade version with the hunter's original clothes, what differs now is a purple blue background with lighter rolling stones and a new color palette for the cannibals, they also have a war paint in the middle of their body like most of indigenous or African tribes make in their culture, a small addition that does not exist in the Arcade version. alfredtdk Posted March 19, 2022 Author Share Posted March 19, 2022 JHA - LOGO CHANGE (NTSC) Although the Arcade version's logo is inferior compared to the Atari 2600 version, yes this atari version it goes from ten to zero in the Arcade version, Atari was brilliant in this logo innovation, its letters reminded the vines, mountains and forests of the adventure, simply amazing , but as I have been trying to get closer to Arcade, nothing more natural than bringing this missing element or just emulating it with what we have available in its original programming. I don't know if the result was good, you are the ones who will decide. How to bring the tree on which the woman hangs without removing the caldron and the fire? I think it's the most that can be done in such a limited space without leaving our hero's girlfriend inside the caldron and that's what you're seeing. Of course, not everything is perfect and the tree and the rope will share the colors with the woman and the caldron on the fire.
