 I will be releasing the final PAL and NTSC version tonight, Prizrak. With the help of Bomberman94  I'm finalizing the PAL version. Let's say the original version is like a diamond in the rough, we're polishing it to make it beautiful.?
The Challenge was related to the spinach can that camouflages itself in the stairs of Level 1. I could open a gap that could improve the visualization, but the inspiration I found came from the Arcade version, that is, the solution would be to redo Level 1.

To sum it up: Olivia a bit lighter and the hearts (when reach lower level) might be a bit darker. 
Edit: the can (when flashing) hard to see is only in the first level - so changing is not a must (if you can‘t change it per level it must fit for all 3 levels).

Enumerating

1- No problem, Olivia's original color is 44 and I lowered it to 40, we'll finish at 42, the middle ground. The hearts will darken a little too. The spinach can shares color with Bluto (Brutus), in the same way Popeye shares color with Bluto's missiles. If I change the color of spinach I will be changing the color of Bluto too. That's the problem with shared colors. As I said to Prizrak just now, I could open a gap where the spinach is located for better visualization, but the solution I found seems to be the best possible and brings it even closer to its Arcade version.

3- You're welcome. I would call it working together. If it weren't for your comments, maybe I wouldn't mess with the graphical part of Level 1 anymore. ?

POPEYE NG - COLORS ARCADE FINAL (PAL)

 

REVISION - LEVEL 1 REDONE

 

Level 1 stairs done. Added trash bins below the spinach can. Olivia darker from her original color. Objects thrown by Olivia a little darker. Completely eliminated the flicker of the stairs, pilasters and central staircase.

*When redoing the steps of the stairs similar to the Arcade version, a false 3D depth effect is given. Even if you don't see the color of the concrete wall, different from the original flat version.*

NTSC version coming soon.

POPEYE NG - ARCADE COLORS FINAL (NTSC)

 

Completed Reviews ?

 

Level 1, 2 and 3 scenery with new colors. Level 1 stairs redone from Arcade mode, added trash cans below the spinach can. Olivia's house now has striped colors. House with green roof. Inverted arrows in correct position. Flicker effects removed completely from Level 1.

Color of Olivia is (still) too dark - I searched in previous versions and found this one with perfect „Olivia color“: „PopeyeNGv.OptionalFinal(PopeyeHack)(2022)(Alfredtdk)(PAL)“.

 

Flicker in level 1 is now eliminated but - to be honest - I like the ‚style of the stairs‘ you used before better (you still use the way how the stairs are drawn in level 2 and 3 - therefore it would be more consistent if you use it in level 1, too). What do you think? Maybe you can use ‚the trick‘ to easily see the spinach can like it is solved in level 3 - or just a hole to see the blinking can…

I renamed the files you uploaded to the PlusStore, because the PAL version could not be loaded when in the same folder than the NTSC version (Filenames in a PlusStore folder must be destinct within the first 32 chars).

I can apply these changes in version 4.2 and update post #48 so you can download and check if the result is good, if you need more adjustments we will apply the changes in post #48.

I really liked the new stair that remind me a lot of the Arcade version and I intend to leave it that way.
And unfortunately it is not possible to replicate the stairs of level 2 and level 3 precisely because there are no Arcade elements for that. On level 2 we have the buildings and on level 3 the boat that helps shape the stairs that way. At level 1 we only have the dark space and this would end up affecting other objects in the scenery such as pilasters. On the other hand, in version 4.2 I can adapt the recycle bins in the dark space exactly as in Level 3.

ok great,

I've managed to put some more work in this,

 

Bluto more recognizable now (still have to draw the upright punch frame),

Popeye's walk and punch done,

overall size analogy fixed (Popeye now much shorter than Bluto)

Olive Oyl coming up !

Meanwhile I made a monochrome version based on Gameboy.
Not everything is monochromatic, the river of fallen objects and the chimney remain in their original colors.

Tested version 4.4 and is great - just see the screenshots from CRT (my personal favorite is level 3 with the ship - great contrast and colors and of course drawing of the ship - but must see it on real TV). 

 

I only found one last thing: look at the roofs (over the „POPEYE“ and the right house) at level 1 and 2 - the color doesn’t match to the house (too bright/wrong color).

You mean at the top, the chimney? Unfortunately for some reason I still haven't figured out when changing the chimney color at line 1830 it produces a very annoying flickering effect. I still haven't found the cause, so in all versions already released their color remains original.

I just loved the new sprites, TIX. the smoke coming out of Popeye's pipe or Olivia's breath to launch the objects were too beautiful. Bluto is great too, very faithful to the old design in which the belly is more prominent.Everything is perfect. Thank you for your cooperation and for the great work, congratulations.
I added the new sprites in the PAL version for those who want to download.

POPEYE NG - NEW SPRITES (PAL/NTSC)

 

New and probably the last version of Popeye NG.
Thanks to TIX for developing the new sprites.
The chimney color in the NTSC version has been changed to a lighter green and in the PAL version the roof and chimney are now also in green color. I also thank everyone for the compliments and collaboration. Hope you like the update.
