Albert! I don’t think this is political because both sides hate this frikkin’ guy, but I’m not upset if you disagree.

Santos is fair game, that's why I slapped Tommy's face on it.  The guy is not a political figure anyway, never was. LOL

Santa knows that coal is in limited supply so instead, you'll get reindeer poop.

Poop could be used as fertilizer which has more utility.

Merry Amicomas!

When someone hits that point in their life where they wonder why their kids or loved ones want nothing to do with them anymore, do you think they ever think of a moment like this one and how maybe that was the beginning that put them on that path?

Please tell me that is not a real photograph.

Sorry man, it is unfortunately real. Some of these men bought those for their kids for Christmas.

It might even be one of those AtariAgers that dislike this thread! 😳

I vaguely remember seeing a tweet with someone's kids opening them up even.

Has anyone else in their mind just about now thought to themselves after seeing this pic thinking, "BURN IT!" ?

And people wonder why kids go crazy and shoot up schools, okay then.  I would sleep with one eye open, as a parent. :ponder:

But opening the sealed boxes destroys the value to collectors!  🥹

That said, if these "games" ever reach clearance-level pricing, I will get Moon Patrol as that was my favourite arcade game growing up.

What price would be the sweet spot for you to buy a Moon Patrol box with no game?

Reading the last couple of pages - and everything that's come before really - emphasises to me just how weird and alien to me the perspective of these Intellivision die-hards was. They hold resentment towards Nintendo for the console of their childhoods not doing well and dying.  To the point where they've frozen in time to a certain degree and have rejected modern gaming entirely.

Aspects of modern gaming absolutely suck, no doubt, but it's just bizarre that they didn't seem to enjoy seeing the medium grow and flourish over the years. Nothing was more exciting to me than seeing the rise of the Playstation and 3D graphics being embraced. The experimentation, the successes (and even the failures) of game design that expanded what could be achieved.  These Intellivision nuts just didn't see any value in any of that and that's bizarre to me. Nostalgia is a helluva drug I guess.

I have deep nostalgia for my early gaming years too but it hasn't made me blind to the incredible things that have been achieved over the years in modern gaming.  Their perspective is so isolating and weird and it seems to have blinded them to the obvious issues that existed with this entire Amico endeavour.

I totally agree with you and actually, nostalgia is literally a disease.

It's also an example of one of the points that Tommy and his cult didn't like having pointed out. They are oblivious to the fact family gaming is out there.

If any of these diehards had families, it seemed apparent that they struggled in connecting with their kids and love of gaming. Instead of being interested and learning about the games their kids were interested in, they wanted the kids to bend to their likes.

The Switch is a porn console and therefore not a family console is laughable coming from @Tommy Tallarico who not only doesn't have kids, but literally talked about porn with a 14 year old on a stream.

Yet the goobers like jaybird, sockpuppets, and cult followers were so entrenched in getting their childhoods back couldn't believe when I said my wife said $200 was too much for an Amico and to buy a Switch.

The demographic wasn't for families, it was this...

But what do I know? I'm only younger than all these guys have my own kids and helped raise another one with ages ranging from 26 to soon to be 0. And whether it was the now 26 year old or currently Jr Beef connecting and playing games with isn't/wasn't hard as long as I'm not just making it about me.

I got to go now, as Jr wants me to play a game he likes that I'm not feeling like playing. BUT I will because I like spending time with my kid. 🤪

Sorry if this is a repeat, but a simple search of this thread topic doesn't mention:

CFO/COO Nick Richards shows an end date of involvement with the company as of June, 2024.

I wouldn't pay THEM one penny for anything they ever made.  Not T-Shirts,  Not Boxes, Not Games,...Oh wait they didn't really make any games!

And No,  I'm not counting Amico Home, I mean real games someone might want to play...Not some double cell phone garbage...

I think this is a key factor. As much as the Amico team, and eventually many of the people in the collage, tried to downplay the nostalgia factor and that the target demographic, at least initially, would almost exclusively be males in the 40s - 70s, there was no denying that that's exactly what it was. It would only be once this demographic was both pleased and positively vocal would it have a real chance at spreading wider. And frankly, that may very well be why they targeted who they did in terms of "influencers." They knew that would be the friendliest, easiest audience to what they were doing (I guess we could say peers in a way considering the demographic of the Amico team, which I guess should have been more of a red flag in and of itself, i.e., the lack of diverse viewpoints).

And speaking of forcing your games on kids, that's still a thing with our demographic that extends to computers, music, movies, etc. I try to be the voice of reason with this as much as possible when I encounter it (there was a guy on social media the other day actually putting the idea out there that he'd introduce his kid to computers with an Apple II of all things). I have three daughters (now 19, 17, and 9, all soon to have birthdays) and I introduce them when I can to some of my favorite things in these areas. Sometimes they're resistant. Sometimes they're not. Either way, I never expect them to like it the same way that I do, or even at all (my 9 year old, naturally, is VERY resistant to anything that looks "old"). I always think back to when I was a kid and enjoyed my own things that were current at the time, but of course dipped my toes in various outdated pop culture and how I sometimes really enjoyed it, and sometimes didn't. Why should I expect anything different with my kids? It's the same thing with consoles, computers, and portables. Not that there really was anything before in those areas when I was a kid, but I wanted to play with the latest and greatest, the stuff that my peers were using. Why should it be any different with my kids? It shouldn't and isn't.

As for enjoying games with my kids, I've had great experiences with each of them (and my wife too, obviously), but it's mostly been with modern stuff. No surprise there. As much as we like to deny it, older games almost always require a heavy dose of nostalgia and/or "you had to be there" understanding to get through the clunkiness or just outright differences between past and modern expectations. I DO think that the Amico tried to marry some of the best of classic "simplistic" gameplay with modern-ish controls and reasonable visuals, but they did it in a surprisingly amateurish way that made the end result both unproducable and unappealing. They were definitely way over their heads. Frankly, if you gave the type of funds they raised to other teams, there's a good chance something really awesome could have been produced. Whether that would have been market sustainable is another issue, but this is definitely a lesson in hubris and a healthy dose of Dunning-Kruger for the individuals directly involved.

I think there's a difference between sharing with your kids and forcing them. Junior and I play with my old He-men and TMNT toys in addition to the new ones coming out.

However, to make this analogous to the Amicolytes. It would be like me saying there are no toys for kids to play with. Long gone are the days that you could go into a store and buy a toy for a kid. All the stores do is sell porn toys to the kids and they run off with your credit card to rack up quite the bill on their toy shut. Only the Action Amico figure could bring back toy playing for kids.

It's just ridiculous concept held onto by a bunch of morons. Their idiocy was blatantly obvious especially when you look at someone like Mullis who tried to use his kids. Then he would get mad when people pointed out and laughed at how his kids said Cornhole was broken.

To bring it back, I wasn't a Godzilla fan. I didn't hate Godzilla but didn't seek it out. Jr Beef loves Godzilla. So we have got toys of it and we play with them. If I was an Amicolyte I'd say they were trash toys and we couldn't connect while playing them.
