johannesmutlu
Back in the day both saltek & konami released their arcade dockstation accessoire for the gameboy whether it was called the hyperboy or the booster boy and while it sounded cool on peper ,BUT it’s glare because of it’s improper aligned light and thick lense ,still did it make it hard to play on it, so i was wonder why on earth didn’t both saltek & konami did also made such arcade dockstation for both the gamegear, the turbo express, the atari lynx, sega nomad and the GBA sp??? because those systems would,ve be soooo much more ideal for it sich both systems are in color and backlighted, they also simply could bring the arcade experience more close on the go,on the gameboy you simply couldn’t the arcade experience any closer with those arcade dockstations, even not with ports like pac man, donkeykong, space invaders or galaga etc,,, to me it feels more like having a rawish experience on the go, no maybe if both konami & saltek did came up with such arcade dockstation for the gameboycolor, then those mentioned ports could,ve just slightly feel more closer to the arcade version, but certainly not on a nonbacklighted Spinasy screen, also it would be cool to see molded arcade dockstations for both the gba,the neogeopocket color and the wonderswam color along with perfect aligned light because that would be ideal and cool😁 please note: that this was originally a different topic but since that problem was solved i,ve decided to change it to a different topic, but sadly as far as a do know,i couldn’t change the subject catogory of it anymore so my apologize for that. GoldLeader
I have a Hyperboy,...It's Awesome! BTW there is a dockstation for the Analogue Pocket coming out...Reminds me I need to get one of those ! 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/341208-why-was-there-only-an-arcade-dockstation-for-the-gameboy-and-not-also-for-other-handhelds/#findComment-5127066 Share on other sites
roots.genoa
To answer the question, you just have to look at the pictures to get your answer; they were not only arcade dockstations but they also improve the display. Other handhelds didn't need that as much. Also I guess it's easier with a vertical oriented system. Just imagine what a dockstation for the Lynx would look like... Those products were terrible. Just look at the one on the right. So, no big loss. Also the other consoles had better screens so wouldn’t need all that random crap affixed to it. Well there were some lynx games wich did require to play the lynx in vertical orientation like klax etc,,, and it could,ve encourage game developers to make more games requiring vertical orientation to be able to play it. also there was the turbo express wich was a true vertical oriented as well just like the gameboy😁 Edited September 22, 2022 by johannesmutlu Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/341208-why-was-there-only-an-arcade-dockstation-for-the-gameboy-and-not-also-for-other-handhelds/#findComment-5127207 Share on other sites

Yes that hyper boy was nothing more then a gimmick ,but with a cleaner lens and white lite (rather then yellow) itcould,ve be a better product,BUT with a backlight modded gameboy or a raspbarry pie modded gameboy, you can get the most use out of the hyper boy,so theres is some potential with the hyperboy 😁 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/341208-why-was-there-only-an-arcade-dockstation-for-the-gameboy-and-not-also-for-other-handhelds/#findComment-5127211 Share on other sites

MrTrust
Lol, I remember those things. What kind of clown would want to stick their portable thing in a big dock just to make the screen bi... Never mind then. 1 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/341208-why-was-there-only-an-arcade-dockstation-for-the-gameboy-and-not-also-for-other-handhelds/#findComment-5127322 Share on other sites
CapitanClassic
Nintendo continued their lack of non- backlit handhelds until the 2nd model GBA. This probably allowed them to have extremely long battery life on their handhelds, but was a huge market for 3rd party light accessories. (Especially those Nyko Wormlights) A lot of the people I knew played their GBC, GBpocket, and GBC next to a power outlet anyway, off of a DC charger. Batteries were expensive and the alternative rechargeables didn't last as long.
