I was wanting to get some updates on the homebrew scene and bummed that I could not find it. The website is still there? But the forums appear to be dead now? I know they finally did a forum upgrade like a few weeks back, but since then, aside from one notice when Melf put out another review, I've not see anything in the forums? And, if they updated the forums, then I don't understand why I'm still getting cert issues for them and I have to bypass Chrome security in order to view them?
Tanooki
They're active on discord, I've got myself signed into there when I bother to open it up. The page is still updates, maybe the forum just isn't that interesting anymore vs live chat.
newtmonkey
It's a sad fact of life that Discord is largely replacing forums. I have never understood the appeal of live chats with dozens of people, because there's no way to stay on topic. It's just chaos, and there's no way to discuss anything in depth. I know you can search Discord, but you still end up just tracking down threads of conversations throughout a bunch of memes and off topic nonsense. Of course, forums aren't really helping themselves here, since few forums seem to want to crack down on YouTube shills, people that just post meme gifs or link after link to YouTube with no discussion, trolls, etc.

Discord is largely trash and I hardly use it at all aside from a 1-on-1 instant messenger the say way I used MSN Messenger 20 years ago. I don't belong to any Discord communities because I found that the ones I did join I just idled because I don't have the free time to keep up with them and I don't like the user experience of having to scroll upward through everything just to see a bunch of reaction images. I appreciate that AtariAge's forums still exist in the year 2024. I noticed that there is a Discord linked on the homepage, but I have no intention of using it.
roots.genoa
I'm torn on Discord. I agree it's a lot more chaotic than forums, and it's hard to search for information. I just think it has a different purpose, more like a modern IRC. For instance, since my association created a Discord server, it's way easier to keep in touch with (most of) our members, and even to organize IRL stuff between us. Our forums were mostly dead, most people had moved to social networks anyway. My life would be also completely different without the Discord server I am with other AtariAge members, because it allows us to talk a lot more freely. That being said, I would not be totally against leaving the two other servers I'm in... I tend to ignore most of what is posted on them anyway, and when I browse them, I spend too much time doing it.
Tanooki
That's 100% how I view and use discord, 21st century irc (mIRC) web based chat client. They both could share images (legit as d/l or ascii-ansi), both did public and private chat, (using mirc) it did keep a back buffer you could hunt but far more limited than discord, and you had channels, channel mods, channel ops, and sub-sections to servers. It's more or less largely the same thing.
+-^CrossBow^-
For some reason when I try and access the Sega-16 discord server...nothing happens? Odd as I'm part of quite a few other servers including AA's discord. Is the link for the discord on the sega-16 website incorrect perhaps?

For some reason clicking the link on the Sega-16 page just opens up a blank discord page for me so I figured the link must be incorrect.
+neogeo1982
I posted some high scores for Power Strike on Sega-16 forums a couple weeks ago. But yeah it doesn't have many recent things on there or a lot of people it seems.

I really want to, though I don't think I have it in me to maintain a compendium 😅 This is only Genesis, who knows whats out there for PCE, Master System, MSX, N64, etc...... 🙀 What an awesome cool post Yeah, I noticed sega-16 forums been down for a long while. I wish they'd come back online, there was a *ton* of info on the Tech Aid section (especially for the Sega CD), not to mention my years of PMs and convos with friends...was there any warning? Anyone try contacting the host yet?
Tanooki
Best bet probably is the discord I think it was setup by the site so they'd be there or could reach someone with that answer.

spoonman Posted yesterday at 05:32 AM Share Posted yesterday at 05:32 AM It seems like my account was deleted from there. I just received a "Hello Spoonman, we'd like to wish you a Happy Birthday, from Sega-16 forums. When I try to login, I get: Error: The username spoonman is not registered on this site. If you are unsure of your username, try your email address instead. I've been on there for several years, and this is the first problem I've had. Also it's NOT my birthday. I've also tried logging in with my email address, and it says that doesn't exist on there either. Anyone know what's going on? Should I jus figure it's going/gone the way of NintendoAge?
