This is the first entirely modern acquisition Atari has made so far and seems like an odd choice, although I presume the IP was quite cheap.

It was probably very cheap since it was a bankruptcy sale. I don´t think they would have bought it if it hadn´t been a bankruptcy sale.

Given how many other studios have financial troubles lately... shutting down, canceling projects, laying off people... there is a lot of IP probably on the bargaining table.

For somebody in Wade's position and mindset- he has the keys to the candy store.

Given this and how Wade talked in that interview about the industry layoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if we see more such acquisitions. If this is the strat, they should check out Aruze, which owns 'Mr. Do!' https://www.casino.org/news/aruze-gaming-pursuing-chapter-11-bankruptcy-protection/

Definitely, still I wonder if they have any plans to do anything with either series. I won't hold my breath for Awesomenauts Recharged but it could be cool if they get the servers back up and running for that game. Has Atari ever run some kind of online game ecosystem like this before?

Plus a 10% share of Anttream, and an unannounced % of Playmaji.

All Atari said about the Playmaji deal is that it was a 'minority investment'.

I think they are being coy.  49% is still 'minority'.

Word games... business games....

It would appear to be more significant than how they presented it.  Atari was lead investor in the deal.

Reference- Playmaji SEC filing- documenting a sale of $5,441,999

Looks like we have a new member of the Antstream misspelling club. No "s", nice. And before I am evicted from the club: Halfway through writing the infamous name of the retro game streamer, I had forgot the first "t" again. :)

I find this one interesting too....

Atari announced a partnership with Sigfox several years ago.

Sigfox went through financial troubles though...was bought, and is now on a comeback.

The sigfox logo is an Easter Egg at the bottom of a page in Atari's financial report a couple months ago.

Where is this from?

I forget...but there are numerous business sites online that say roughly the same amount.  Of course it's an estimate.  Worthless if Atari doesn't do anything with the tech...or sell it to someone.

I just find it funny that they never released how much they paid for the company.  Same for Playmaji...no mention.   Atariage- no mention.

Not quite sure why that isn't required... but...

It looks like they are going to continue operations, but this would be a perfect acquisition for Atari if they could get all the Universal stuff. @TrogdarRobusto I assume Atari is well aware of this situation, but Atari should know this would be met with some excitement from the community.

They had Atari console versions too

Mr Do! - 2600

Mr Do's Castle - 2600+5200

also notable is a Laserdisc game Super Don Quix-ote

Dear Modern, Faux-Atari:

Have you considered making a deal with Hamster and getting all your new retro-acquisition rereleased as part of Hamster's Arcade Archives series?

I mean, I'd prefer some more anthology collections to buying them individually, but Hamster's collections HAVE been released in sets ... there are two Taito arcade collections that are anthologies of the Arcade Archives series, so...

Calling them faux Atari shows me that you have no respect for the current version of the company so why should they bother listening to you're requests?
