José Pereira
Going trough them there again and following the 'rule' (outside and around the world scenarios) these are the ones I think will fit (but also because of their design, colours,...): I don't think these are on the A8 current version... P.s.- This one, for example, choose wich you want (and on A8 we can but also better be two: sky /DLI/ water): Edited June 22, 2023 by José Pereira Added a 'purple screen' example...

Just kidding, many C64 images are purplish because of the palette.

What we need is standardize the image file creation. Maybe Homesoft could help on that. Those 'just gfxs part' C64 are same tall as in A8: 96scanlines. +Larry
What is the maximum number of backgrounds that can be used in the Atarimax 8 Mb cartridges? Would a "construction set" be feasible where the user could just add backgrounds to a file? (Loaded by disk, of course.) I do hope someone will pick up the idea for "out of this world" backgrounds. I can envision the rings of Saturn or a background of earth from the moon. Who could have dreamed of the quality of today's A8 computer art in the 1980's? snicklin
I was wondering if my RastaConverter picture of a real life Sydney Opera House scene back in December was inspiration for this or not? Amazing work. Nothing stops 2, 3 or 4 cart images being released really.
_The Doctor__
Nothing says a Daytime Version and a Night time version can't be included for some that lend themselves nicely to it.
tjlazer
The mountain backdrop has white ground so the text is not visable. Would be good if the color was changed to a different shade so the text shows. EDIT. Looks like the C64 version is cyan?

tjlazer
Any way this scene can be changed with a darker color for the ground? Text is very hard to see. The C64 version had a darker color.
_The Doctor__
If it doesn't look excellent on the Commodore don't include it just because Commodore. If it can be made better than that and look excellent on the Atari then of course you'd include it. Wilheim
I just see that there are some compatibility issues with side3. Well, here’s a “side3 friendly” version

Fixed: Note that IK still requires a register lock on SIDE3 (which was previously broken), so your patched version might actually be preferable anyway.
pseudografx
I've finished another background, this time it's the Odawara castle in Japan. Background color for the players should be $18, dark player could be $76. Beeblebrox
@pseudografx absolutely stunning!!! One thing that would be interesting, (which I am sure isn't on the cards or is even possible given the cpu cycles already taken up), is horizontal dli colour changes in the lower screen/play area. So the single colour play area background would be broken up a little horizontally. It this were hypothetically possible then for some screens with certain backdrops it might work quite well visually. If course I'd imagine this would break into the core game engine code and not easy. Just putting it out there. I love the fact we are getting so many gorgeous new backdrops for such a classic and deserving A8 game. Such a pity Archer never got to see them. Beeblebrox
@pseudografx hey, you know what would make cool upper screen backgrounds. (?) - hot air balloons or kites. Wonder how many colours would work with the rcx format. Few images to illustrate what I mean. Or in keeping with ol school 16bit fighter titles like street fighter, etc you could have background images with crowds of onlookers, where of course the colours and image is much simplified: Edited June 28, 2023 by Beeblebrox
jvas
Would be fun to add backgrounds from other games like Bruce Lee, Pitfall, Alley Cat etc...

Let's do some crowd in the background - but with these martial art figures: Bruce Lee / Ninja / Yamo (from Bruce Lee), Karatekas (from Broderbund's Karateka), Ninja /Karateka/Thug (from Mastertronic's Ninja), Kung-Fu Fighters (from The English Software Chop Suey), Ninja/other fighters (from the last Ninja 1, 2, ...), fighters from Yie Ar Kung Fu, ... all of them watching you fighting.
