ACML
I saw this posted on an Atari User website (I think Tim Kline's). I have accomplished the ClearPic2002 mod several times and have been very satisfied, but now there is this "revised" version that is of unknown origin to me. Did Bob Woolley revise this since 2002 or was it someone else's work? Regardless, has anyone tired this revised version? _The Doctor__
there were a series of these but normally they had revision numbers, years etc. I am certain you will find them in newsletters / magazine type stuff. So I'd say revisited and of course later discussions online lead to these. There were mentions of differences for different model Atari's as well. Super Video and Clear Pic went in sort of the same direction at some points (same goal) but I think Clear Pic versioning was by year later in life but Super Video stuck with revisioning numbers like 2.1 etc. Edited July 22, 2023 by _The Doctor__

I tried the "Revised Mod" on my 1200XL, and it made my video worse. Screen was visible, but VERY prominent jail bars, and fuzzed chroma (colors) at the edges of the usable screen, and washed out overall. I checked & double checked, but it was correct and didn't work. It isn't even correct. I think the R188 listed as originally 750, was actually 920 (or 9 hundred something.. I verified it was meter, and research) No guiding photo, my C62 originally empty but said should have 10pf. Wire from R44, either side seemed sloppy since they weren't equivalent. Anyway, I've undone that and am right now applying the official 2002 listed above it.
+Larry
I did both these mods quite a few years ago. IMO, a lot of work. Here is one that should get you 90% of the benefits with a whole lot less parts and work. At least it did for me... The revised was called Clearpic 2012, IIRC. Here is the earlier thread that discusses some options:

This is where I first saw the revised version... labeled "ATARI 1200XL BAD VIDEO FIX" The additional text made it sound great. https://www.atarihq.com/atcomp/1200vid.html I finished the CLEARPIC2002 last night, and it is really nice in composite, and extremely sharp with S-Video, The S-Video does show faint jail bars (due to sharpness in solid uniform backgrounds), and I found that I could make them half-as-prominent by lifting the right side of C63. Cutting C63 on its way to R45 should prevent Luma/Chroma from improperly mingling, and some people have added a cutoff switch on the 800XL for this. I ended up leaving it alone since each tweak affects S-Video & Composite. http://retrobits.net/atari/clearpic.shtml

I've noticed that a stock 1200XL has jail bars and it's there in the LUMA signal. That means the stock video circuit that does not have CHROMA connected to the monitor jack already has the jail bar effect in the B&W LUMA signal going to the monitor jack, so I don't think the ClearPic2002 mod introduced the jail bars as they were already there. flashjazzcat
Quite so. Even UAV-equipped 1200XLs are prone to jailbars.
Ricky Spanish
I really don't notice much of anything. Unless I look super close.
