Hi everyone,

FYI that my podcast - The Brokentoken Classic Gaming Podcast - and the Music City Multi-Con have partnered together to release the first in a 3-part panel series from the 2022 show featuring David CraneDan Kitchen and Garry Kitchen where, over the course of three inter-connected interviews, we explore:

  • Part 1 – Atari and the Activision years (audio available in podcast episode 114)
    SCR-20230820-mikz.thumb.jpeg.7334812831f24649c9c8c2ce45548835.jpeg

  • Part 2 – the Absolute Entertainment years (audio upcoming in episode 115 – link will go live when the show is released)
  • Part 3 – the birth of their new development and publishing company – Audacity Games (audio upcoming in episode 116- link will go live when the show is released)

The video for part 1 of the series is linked here and above and I will update the remaining links as the panel videos are published and the podcast episodes are released.

I’m sure many of you have attended panels with these gentlemen before and heard some of the stories they tell, but I will say that I strived - as much as possible - to steer away from some of the “generic” questions that you hear on every interview and really press into the history and the state of the industry at each changing of the guard.  It’s my intent that you hear some new content here and finish the panel with more insight and knowledge about their involvement than you may have started with.

We hope you'll enjoy this very special presentation and retrospective look at the long and storied history of Activision and the people behind the powerhouse that it became.  It was an honor being able to spend so much time (far more than originally planned) with these legends of the gaming industry and we hope it comes across the same.

Not sure how relevant anything they say about Audacity will be seeing as they've gone silent on their social platforms for over 2 years and Casey's Gold has been "coming soon" for about as long.  Any plans they may have talked about in the interview seem to have changed but it still may be worth checking out.

Well, the 3rd panel discussion is devoted completely to that topic, so keep an eye out on this thread and I'll update here when it's ready to go public.  TL/DR on that is that nothing much had changed as of October 2022 and fast-forward to today and we've not seen much else come to light since - BUT - they do talk about what's going to happen with Kasey's Gold and some future plans, so it'll be worth checking out.

Looking forward to hearing just what happened to Casey's Gold. So odd how Circus Convoy came out of left field, and was released first. Then hearing how poor sales of *that* game might have contributed to CG being put on hold TFN... WTH?

That's the first I've heard about sales of Circus Convoy being poor - has that been discussed elsewhere with supporting data or is that just rumor/speculation?

It's mentioned in just about every Gold Rush/Casey's Gold/Circus Convoy thread. Probably speculation I guess, IDK. Which is why it would be nice to hear what the real scoop is.  🙂

It seems to be just that. Rumor and speculation. Nothing confirmed as far as I could see.

It would be nice to know current status - I agree.  There's some discussion there in the 3rd (Audacity) panel, but I think it's fair to say that we'll see the game when it's ready to go on sale, much like what we saw with Circus Convoy.

Same here.. I've kept a close eye on everything related to Audacity and haven't found any hard data that supports a claim either way (which can be good, as well) so we just have to wait them out and I'm sure the game will drop when it's ready.  I honestly doubt they are doing this for the "untold riches" that it might promise.. I feel they're doing this for the love of the platform and the community and will be happy to break even on their development and tooling costs (hint for the 3rd panel).

These interviews are from last year. I'd think an actual last year video interview would fill in for that silence.

I'm sure if they were abandoning things they'd let us know.

Yes, I did realize that before I posted my comment.  I looked up when the fest was and it was October, or at least this year's one is and I presume last year was the same.  That's still another 10 months of silence between then and now. It would've been nice to have had some sort of update on their social platforms for all us eager fans who didn't attend this conference. From the original poster's response to my comment, it seems that future plans are discussed and I'm really interested in hearing what they have to say.

Hi everyone - I can no longer edit the original message in the thread, so I'll reply inline with updates.

We've just published part 2 of the interview series and the audio is available in episode 115 of our podcast and the video is available here

Hi everyone - we've now published part 3 of the interview series and the audio is available in episode 116 of our podcast and the video is available here.

In this panel discussion we discuss the birth of Audacity Games and their vision for the future of the company and publishing new games for the Atari 2600.  There's some brief updates towards the end of the video on future plans, as well, so hopefully there's a few "new" nuggets in here for everyone, even if you've seen other interviews on this topic!

Special thanks go to David Corrigan for placing his trust in us to research and deliver these three panel discussions at the Music City Multi Con.  This will go down as one of the highlights of the podcast and part of its legacy and we so appreciate this opportunity.

I've been waiting for part 3 for so long I forgot all about it, so it was a pleasant surprise when the email notification dropped.  I've already listened to most of it.  Only 10 more minutes to go.  Hopefully we're be getting Casey's Gold sometime in 2024.  My thanks to everyone involved in the interview/podcast.

I certainly apologize for the gap being so long in-between episodes - that is totally on me as the Holidays crept in, family gets sick, life, etc.... it's all a blur in hindsight. :)

I'm glad you've enjoyed the interview series and yes - let's hope for Casey's Gold in 2024!!

great video.  really enjoyed it.  I need to go back and watch the first two parts now!

Thank you!  You definitely owe it to yourself to go back and watch the first two parts.  No humblebrag on that at all - it's moreso the extent of the information they shared and how well the conversation flowed.

Each panel was originally intended to be 1 hour long, but the audience was so invested and David, Garry and Dan were on a roll that both of the first two panels went WAY over - but in the best way possible.  It was something else and absolutely fantastic discussion.  I hope you enjoy them!
