5200 OE HSC Challenge 11/2023 Berzerk

For November, we'll run the first game I ever played, Berzerk, on defaults. Play using Atari mfg controls, and real 5200 systems. The only modern exceptions are flashcarts/SD loaders, running original Roms. Use of period aftermarket analog sticks allowed, such as Wico, but with a -1 HSC pt penalty. Pics preferred, but not required, except for HSC wins and records. Round ends when month does.

 

Current HSC record- bust it for a bonus point!

Yeah the speech is really cool, i do feel though that this game still needed a few more refinements before they released it.

It's a royal pain in the back pocket, that's for sure,

If the player moved a little faster like the arcade, then this would be a really good game, but the way it is now, the only thing that I think is good about it, is the speech.

Best I'm getting, lol 2,620. I'll setup our final round of 2023 tomorrow, after work. It'll be our "what if" round. I just finished testing play of some candidates...

No surprise, but November goes to RB5200, for an excellent run at this difficult game. 👍 Once, I got super lucky and hit 14k in this, but rarely get much. I'd agree this could be better, but never played the arcade version. My first ever game played, was the 2600 version, while I recovered from burn injuries in a hospital bed, in my preschool years. An orderly brought his system in for me, to have something to do.

Anyhow, thanks to all who played, and continue to let this little niche of 1983 live on. I test played (5min each), 3 period conversions, for our what-if round. Caverns Of Mars worked best, and coming up...
