it is the multi cart 3.0

A good choice - plenty of games on that one. We should be able to find a game for the April round that is on your SK Multicart 3.0 and other multicartridges and thus at hand of many people.

I have a large collection and several homebrews I just don't have that one unfortunately

O.k., I see. Perhaps you can play this round on emulator. Compared to Mine Storm the control of Galaxy Wars SL is simple (at least I think) - perhaps you give it a try. Sure enough this is a workaround and not a really good solution.

@all: Perhaps you can give input for the next played games and thus make help that most players have that very game.

As Beserk is next months game, we probably need to pick a version.

Is Beserk 2 on Shaun Perry's cart the same as Beserk Debugged? We've also got Beserk Ultimate, I'm not sure if the the gameplay is the same across all fixed versions or not?

Alternatively, we could allow any version so long as its stated with the score

I was thinking about this as well... and we definitely need some debugged version of Berzerk otherwise it just feels insanely dispiriting to play the game.  Sometimes you'll have a good game going and then the score goes nuts.  Other time the score jumps up not that much and it's hard to know it was even glitched.

I don't think Berzerk Ultimate has ever been played in a competition, and it was specifically debugged in many ways (incorporating the fixes of other berzerk versions), and improved in others.  I was really hoping we could play that one :D

If we decide on this, I could make sure the binaries compiled are the latest available from the Github source code.

I'd be up for seeing how well it holds up?

If there's a newer version, and it's not too much trouble, I'd appreciate a fresh build.

I wasn't aware the score could glitch on the original, that's a shame as makes ot useless for competition

I checked out the code and compiled it, well... had to fix some errors that were preventing me from compiling it... but after that I got the same exact binary Malban shared already for multicarts.  However, I padded the unused bytes in this one with 0xff up to 32KB, just in case for flash carts that might leave those bytes as 0x00.  This helps prevent weird random bugs when code accidentally reads outside of it's memory range.  0xFF or 0x01 are good pad values.  FWIW, VEXTREME pads all games loaded with 0x01, and VIDE pads all games with 0xFF.  0x01 actually fixes two known bugs in Mine Storm II and Polar Rescue. Anyhoo, probably more info than you need to worry about :D

If it's ok, I might also use my dedicated Berzerk Ultimate cart that saves high scores to memory.
Do not use this one on flash carts other than VecFever:

Of course, you can also use Malban's downloads of the same, just without the padding:

Everyone is receiving their Hera Primera now it seems... I wonder if we should double up this month and do dual games: Berzerk Ultimate / Hera Primera.
Maybe poll the players that typically enter, or see how many people would be interested in joining a Hera Primera HS comp from VFU/PB/AA.

Could also wait until next month... but most of the initial excitement might have died down by then, who knows.

I've been playing with my pitrex, and while it's quite involved it probably is possible to slow games down. It's quite easy to abuse save states though, even on the beginner bare metal version.

I'm still tempted to leave the rules relatively open though, if people really are gunning for world records then they can observe the TG rules to submit it there as well.

I like the idea of occasional homebrew month, no point having them if we don't play them is there

I'm not sure what impact this will have, but seems there is some difference between official cart and ROM download.

Yeah I'm guessing there will be more differences, and hopefully there aren't too many bugs in it. I guess I'll find out lol
