No.

Thank you.

So if the top isn't supposed to come off is it supposed be clipped on tight? Can it just be glued on without closing off future repair access?

Just bought this cart from Germany. It has two (not the greatest) Activision games. Dolphin and oink (aka wolf @ pigs.)

Was worried this wouldn't work on my 2600+ but, it was fine....

That is interesting. I have this one too and it does not work on my 2600+. I will have to take another look at it then. I have "Challenge & Surfin" too and both work fine on an old 2600. On the 2600+ both boot to a black screen.

You can glue it on, it is not supposed to come off.

My CX24 finally arrived today. Here it is just before I cleaned it up.

IMG_20240806_120312.thumb.jpg.973483aeb5b2b2cd3d63896e85ead986.jpg

I just tested it by playing some Missile Command, I have to say that the stick was very responsive.

Some questions:

IMG_20240806_120318.thumb.jpg.c58a3f252f83aee5a9e6482318efaded.jpg

Are the inner wires supposed to be exposed in the strain relief grommet here? You would usually see the black outer shielding go all the way inside the controller. I can possibly take this apart and move it inside if they are not all like this.

The top of the stick.

IMG_20240806_120334.thumb.jpg.89e0f267e19d8b484dbfe4ac34cffe7e.jpg

It just lifts off easily. Is this supposed to happen? If not I can glue it on, or would that restrict taking it apart later? Or some blue tack in there might help. It spins round, but not enough to cause an issue. I could ignore it.

The actual shaft of the stick.

IMG_20240806_120347.thumb.jpg.d111f8e750a2b91e5580e031f76d4224.jpg

This also spins round, is this normal?

Anyway, all these things aside I was impressed by the responsiveness of the joystick...But I can definitely see why having my left palm basically pointing to ths sky to hold the body of the joystick whilst simultaneously pressing fire buttons could cause extreme hand cramps. I have not played long enough to get them yet, but I can absolutely believe it would happen as it's such an unnatural way to hold your arm for extended periods.

All round though, again I was surprised by the responsiveness and I'll try it out further. The jury is still out for me though.

I never saw the wires and the top hat was fixed.

I believe I have only one or two of once four Prolines left. The others got sold as add ons with consoles.

I have still two of these alternative sticks, which I liked more (in the middle of the pic).

They have a kind of leave switches, like the Quickshot 2🤗

So a little bit less responsive but more robust and autofire🕹

The Koenix was good for Berzerk, Qbert or HERO, by the way.  Therefore I changed to arcade sticks, they are good for almost any type of game but I liked to collect special sticks. The ones I only had for decoration got sold completely after some time with no play.

I kept at least one Proline as reference.

Rev 3 plus an ID number. I wonder how many revisions there were.

I don't know how many revisions there are, but I do see a lot of dryed glue 😉

Yes!! I agree! 😁

This is my favorite one:

joystick.thumb.jpg.553a2cedceebe01cb7f0ea46e3ebbea7.jpg

These ones were very popular in the 80s and 90s in The Netherlands. Good sturdy joystick with micro-switches! I am still using the one I bought over 35 years ago and it still works perfectly 😃

Nice! Can you post the MD5 data of "Dolphin & Pig 'n' Wolf "for me, so I can compare it with mine. If they are the same I have to find out why my cartridge is not working on the 2600+

So here's something interesting. I thought I'd take a photo of both of my 2 Paks. This one was fine:

IMG_20240806_143453.thumb.jpg.8fb274f81ab650cf45e87d0a59759c50.jpg

But when I tried the other I now get this:

IMG_20240806_143551.thumb.jpg.ddbef708c1b2ab584dcafb3624ac4447.jpg

I am sure this worked on an earlier version of the firmware. Do you get the same info?

Can this be fixed?

Completely different!

I get a black screen too, this screen is even displayed AFTER you pull out the 2 pak cartridge (even the FPS is still displaying small jumps). But the cartridge detection still works, because when I insert another cartridge (without powering off the 2600+) the loading screen comes back and the other cartridge is loading.

My cartridge looks the same as posted by fairy princess.

DSC04027.thumb.JPG.0ca2c2235a870e212de978454c2b8cb5.JPG

On an old 2600 the 2 pak cartridge boots fine, first displaying this screen:

DSC04028.thumb.JPG.9ba36b6ffb4e2f61617bf77f83e15382.JPG

And then I get the same menu as you posted:

DSC04029.thumb.JPG.c4f442ee7eb868e01ccd329a41fa40fb.JPG

My other 2 pak cartridge "Challenge & Surfin" is behaving exactly the same as "Dolphin & Pig 'n' Wolf". So a black screen only.

Is that a Competition Pro Joystick? I just recently found one at my local game store. It was working sporadically at first, I opened it and everything looked great. I Cleaned the contacts but it turns out it was DB9 connector. I purchased a new DB9 connector end now the controller works amazingly. I’m getting better scores in some games. I like the size of the buttons on this one. I wouldn’t say it’s for every game but the ones I’ve been trying it on so far works great! I’ve never owned this one before but I really like it! This is a well built controller! And very responsive!

Just bought a copy of Tapper 2600 on eBay that appears to have a replacement label, for under $50, which is a steal!

Heh. This one has gone on quite a journey getting here. I would have held off on buying it if I knew the cart was leaving for vacation just before I bought it.

Yes, the black one is a Competition Pro, I guess. I have 3 of them and they are great!

Maybe the first revision of them? I think at least one of mine was built in the US.

They had leave switches for directions too and are very soft and responsive.

If you want to reach a high score in Juno First, use that stick, that game plays perfectly with it 🤗

I don't think they got sold in Europe? From the 80s I only know later models with the red stick and micro switches for directions. Those first models had leave switches for the buttons still, which got replaced by micro switches later. Rubber centering got replaced by a spring, auto fire,...

They all look similar but maybe 10-20 revisions do exist😊

I have this green 2 Pak as well and a blue one too. I remember one of them always failed like in your description and the other worked on old firmware 🤔

I will test them later on latest firmware and post the results in the experimental firmware thread.

I haven’t thought of trying it with Juno First but I will, great idea! This is what mine looks like. These are low maintenance and durable.

I'm having a similar issue with a Yars Comic and cart from Canada. It's been stuck since the 26th July. I wanted it to arrive before the start of September , which seemed obvious that it would, now not so much. 😬

Yeah, perfect design🤙

I opened them up as well, once they arrived years ago. First I thought "ok, they are black..." then I realized they play so "analogue" and reached out for a screwdriver😊

By the way, one of my later model joystick with leaf switches for the buttons got a problem as the plastic of the button got broken. I replaced them with some standard yellow micro switch arcade buttons and they fit (well, stuck forever)😅
