Caverns of Eris - 2540 pts, level 11
Der Schränker 3 - 260 pts
Double - 6400 pts
Night Knight - 2650 pts
Time Wizard - Finished level 3, got stuck on level 4
Zauberball '23 - 960 pts

Caverns of Eris - it seems like a lot is going on at the same time. On one hand a nice shoot 'em up, on the other hand partially a flickerfest. It gave the feeling more of a tech demo than a complete game.

Der Schränker 3 - not sure how to control this game, as down direction seems to do nothing. It means once I'm stuck at the top of the maze, there is no going back and there is no way to dodge for the birds. Since down appears to work on the other games, I'm not sure it was a hardware malfunction on my side.

Double - fun game, same priniciple as 2048 but more Tetris like. Unfortunately my brain no longer is compatible with these types of games, so I only had a very short go.

Night Knight - another fun game, based on a MSX original as noted in the game. This is one I might play more. Unfortunately it has default high scores way above what you might reach, so if you don't write down your score, it is lost. I thought preparing a high score table with silly scores was something programmers did in the 1980's, not in the 2020's. 😞

Time Wizard - a bit different controls in that you hold down fire to scroll time back and fourth. On the first level you don't have to, but already on second level you need to learn this mechanic to clear it.

Zauberball '23 - a bit of poor man's Wizball, but more action oriented. Fun for a short while, but again pre-populated with insane high scores so most of the time you won't be anywhere near the high score table. If I were a judge in ABBUC, I would definitely deduct points for this.

Down should let you duck if there is no down maze exit.  The game though is quite fast (maybe NTSC vs PAL timing?) making a duck quite a challenge

I suppose I should double check the joystick and the port with some other game and try again. Maybe it is yet another one of those hard to identify faults of my 130XE that manifested itself, as down did absolutely nothing in the session I played yesterday.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I cannot run Caverns of Eris or Time Wizard on an Atari800Win emulator.  Can anyone provide loading instructions?

I have not them yet as was running on my 64k 800xl actual hardware which wont work as I know they need 128k ram (e.g. a 130XE would be needed).  Probably need to make sure your emulation is 130xe

Had a first play on the games on the first abbuc disk:

Numeru - completed a couple of levels on various settings. Nice puzzle game, well implemented.

Double 12,000 looks slick but need to play it more to see if it is skillful

Dota again nice game but only played the first life got to level 6

Night Knight - very nice 7,510 my favourite of the ones I've played (high score on titles not working)

COE 1000 too many lives / health played 5 levels, Zybex style game has potential!

May be into the new year before I can play the rest but we'll see :)

128k ram did it for both of the games I couldn't run.  Was using the default of 64.

Thanks for the help!

Der Schränker 3 - 640 pts
Night Knight - 5310 pts stage 7

So yes, I got down direction to work in Schränker, so I can dodge birds, move down in the dungeon and get to the Montezuma stages. I also enjoy Night Knight, too bad it has a built in high-score that is difficult to overcome but perhaps the binary can be hacked.

If you go by ABBUC final results from the 79 members voting, the ranking was as follows:

1. Time Wizard (130XE) - 617 pts

2. Night Knight - 605 pts

3. Zauberball '23 - 516 pts

4. Double - 500 pts

4. Der Schränker 3 - 500 pts

6. Caverns of Eris (130XE) - 494 pts

plus another 8 entries with lower scores that TRBB has played some from, but were not listed in the first post.

Some more points playing "Der Schränker", needs much more practise.

Not all of the software taking part in the competition were games.
