tell me the truth, do you currently use it? there are few 4 player games so I don't find it that relevant. 😅

maybe to the left or right side but since it will have memory expansion I don't see it as relevant. 😅

What I forgot was the RESET button very important for the multi cartridges. thinking a little more and if we place the START, SELECT, OPTION and RESET buttons as the XEGS since 80% of the people use it to play so you do not need to have connected a keyboard and if you go to program place a usb keyboard.

I dig this XEGS-inspired approach!

The mini itx and keyboard options seem to be doing well. I wonder if an Atari like case could be made that combines both. Like this:

https://www.mini-itx.com/~CBM-6502
Of course with some way of putting in real db9 and cart too.

is also an option, but I see two things to think about:

  • including a keyboard that would increase the cost because of the custom keyboard and the case because it would be bigger.
  • another point the users, some like the layout of the keyboard 400/800, XL, XE or XEGS. that's why i had thought about a usb keyboard so the user can choose to his taste. but i don't know if electronically it would be easy to implement.😅

Yeah perhaps the best thing is a small unit something like your pic (thanks) with an external usb @ScreamingAtTheRadio keyboard. Mini itx does have a lot of votes though too.

no problem just suggestions 😉, another option would be to make a mini XEGS type keyboard that connects to the front via a DB15 port for example, in case you can't use USB stuff.
