CAR versions (all in one) of multi-disk image games

Recommended Posts

Just wondered - on the off chance - whether there were car versions of some multi-disk image games where the originals prompted for disk swaps?  So for example a single CAR file of the Brundles which has been tweaked to not prompt for the 2 x data disks and just either load it all into memory, (I believe it's 256k all in). (There are 3 x disks - the program disk and 2 x level data disk).

Alternatively a CAR version that can run banked from the Atarimax maxflash carts, (and thus supported by AVG and SIDE3).

I'd love such a version of The Brundles. Same goes for other titles.

Currently the way I run Brundles is on either my Incognito'd 800, or my U1MB with SIDE3, where I have the three images mounted.

It may well not be possible for Brundles because of the way it is coded. Still, thought I'd ask. :)

thanks in advance.

I lil Brundles for ya:

I assume you're using a MAP file, which at least allows single-click mounting and booting of all three images?

Aura menu ? Not quite one large disk - Aura menu 43 consists of 2 XFD images, Aura43A.XFD and Aura43B.XFD. Diskside B contains the main program (must be booted) and leveldisk 2, diskside A contains leveldisk 1. So thats not quite what the OP is looking for...

@nobody

Hoping for a) a 320k AIO ML-file by Homesoft with all 100 levels or b) 10 ML-files, each with 10 levels by Homesoft running on 64k or at least 128k computers... joystick (port A) or mouse (port B) controlled.

yup, sure do. :)

Was just asking - in particular with regards to the Brundles, if there was a car version ever created. It's mainly for use on say 256k Rambo xl or 320k upgraded xe machines, which don't have u1mb so cannot mount multiple atr's.

I know for those machines I could use my sio2pc USB with RespeQt, but just curious. I'd love to burn an atarimax maxflash cart with just the Brundles and run it on 256k and 320k machines. :)

Archive should contain everything listed.

Some cart names are marked with "SIO" in brackets. This was done as an indicator to turn off high-speed SIO in Atari800Win PLus, as it would cause problems otherwise. I don't think it's an issue with Altirra, but I can't guarantee that.

[Edit]

Credit for a great number of these goes to @Wrathchild

A fair number of the others (carts only) were done by Steve at Atarimax.

I tend add "Single ATR version" to the titles where I post a conversion so a good search pattern to use 😉 e.g.

Magnetic Scrolls adventures - Single ATR version

Brøderbund Graphical Adventures - Single ATR Version

The Dark Crystal - single ATR version

The Dallas Quest - Single ATR version

Winter Olympiad 88 / Challenge- Single ATR versions
