i'm looking for ways to upgrade stfm's from 520 to 1040 and beyond - does anyone have or know where i can get those small black drams as used in the memory banks on fms? - some used 16 some used 4 - i'm interested in both - or any other way to upgrade the memory on these machines - i have good soldering skills so don't mind the hassle! any help would be appreciated.

Hey Roop.

I'd try ebay. That would be my best bet. I'd say you'd find these chips on early memory sticks. Maybe early simms would be compatible. Or ultimately you could construct a small board to house the simms, then solder the corresponding data and address lines to your motherboard. Either way you are limited to 4 meg. Good luck. Let me know if you need extra info. Cheers!

If your looking for a RAM upgrade you could try here...

http://www.cps-electronics.co.uk/projects/projects.htm, alternativly Atari-Workshop ( http://www.atari-workshop.co.uk ) have some Marpet 2 or 4 Meg upgrades listed in their inventory however I don't if there are bare boards or include the RAM chips, probably the latter because the memory size is stated and most Marpet boards would allow you to upgrade from half to either 2, 2.5 or 4 Meg.

Another places to try might be Keychange ( http://www.keychange.co.uk ) and 16/32 Systems ( http://www.1632systems.co.uk ).

I think I still have the two 256K SIMM I removed from my Marpet board when I changed from 1 to 2.5 Meg of RAM, you can have them if you want.

I see you another UK Atarian so I might see you at the Jagfest if its not to far for you (see 16/32 systems website for more info)

Since Atari Workshop took over the manufacture of the Marpet boards, they populate them with new stock (not pulls) of SIPP modules, firmly soldered in place.
