It's not the removable chips that went bad - I attempted to pull chips off of the working one and placing them on the bad one's motherboard with no go. The one that I replaced it with wasn't in as good of shape, so I ended up remove the keypad from the old one and putting it on the new one so I had a fully functional machine.
