Welcome to a new world!

SIO2PC is a cable that lets you connect your PC to an Atari 8-bit computer. You can boot the Atari from the PC hard drive, and download disk, cart or tape images from the PC to your Atari.

SIO21050 allows you to connect your PC directly to a 1050 floppy drive.

The other option, of course, is to use an emulator. This allows your PC to behave as if it were an Atari computer. That way, you can just use downloaded files straight away. There is plenty of information on this in this forum.

OK, I followed your links, but let me make sure I have this straight- Gads I feel like such an idiot...

SIO2PC will allow me to hook my 800XL to my pc. I can download Atari Computer files of any kind from the internet (disk, cass, cart).

Can I also save these files on 5.25 disk once I get them?

You can do that, or you can just leave them on the PC. You can effectively use the PC hard drive as though it were the Atari's hard drive.

Heres a page with more information on how to get disk images, etc.

Once you have a SIO2PC interface and a regular SIO cable you can just download all the old Atari software in ATR disk images. You load those into a special program on your PC then just turn on your Atari and they load as if you had real disks.
