Nukey Shay
Looks like the player character is an overlay...anyone confirm?
sandmountainslim
It does look to be an overlay though I cannot say for sure. Does this mean you are after my fabulous prizes?
Nukey Shay
Not at all...the game looks kinda crap * wonders if Henry Winkler received a percentage for having his likeness put on an arcade cabinet Edited May 10, 2005 by Nukey Shay

I can imagine the jitters and butterflies it would bring to someones stomach thinking THEY had the awesome task of bringing an arcade masterpiece like Fonz to the 2600 scene I know you probably are thinking "I might screw it up and become Tod Frye" but I have faith in you! I have played your hacks and they are great. Don't let fear of failure stand in the path of your finest hour
Goochman
It was a tough decision between Wolfenstein and Hack 'Em - I gave the nod to Wolfenstein since I ended up palying that more than Hack 'Em (not much of a pac man player) But Hackman of the Year goes to Nukey
Shawn
Why was hack'em not called pacman??
+Omegamatrix
I'm surprised no one mentioned Bottomless Pitfall as a candidate. I love that hack. Q*Boing was a great hack too.
SHAGOHOD X99
Is there a way (or was there ever) to obtain an actual 2600 VCS cartridge of Wolfenstein 2600, or is it just in a playable ROM format for emulation? That looks bad ass! ***Same question on the Berzerk VE. Emulation is fine but I like to have an actual tangible cart when possible. Sort of like how I did with certain Neo:Geo MVS games, and IMO (on that last note) King of Gladiator a hack of KOF '97 was an improvement. Again I'm new to the pre-Famicom era of game collecting/playing so if this question has been asked before I mean not to offend, I'd just really like to own an actual cart is all. It seems only about 30 copies have made it out the door in the past year. There is a new updated release with some improvements that is going to be sold through AA some time soon. Perhaps in time for the CinciClassic. I am not sure how the timing is looking. There is some work remaining on the manual and box. Definitely in the 1st half of this year though. SHAGOHOD X99
Thanks for that info Robert M. I'm actually amazed at how many different projects are being worked on be them "hacks" or totally original works for the 2600 and other pre-Famicom systems. Now the problem is having enough money to buy the stuff and help support the people doing them so that they'll... well, keep making more. BrianC
Out of the 2600 hacks I tried, my favorties are Space Invaders Deluxe, Bottomless Pitfall, and Hack 'em. I like how SI Deluxe simulates the color overlays of the arcade game.

Nukey Shay
Why was hack'em not called pacman?? Because IMO no 2600 game could ever be Pacman. The game's gfx are out of it's reach. Besides that, there's too many <insert name>-man games already. I decided to go with something more unique. However, Hanglyman was never ported to the 2600...so I kept that one. +FujiSkunk
Why was hack'em not called pacman?? Because IMO no 2600 game could ever be Pacman. The game's gfx are out of it's reach. That's not exactly fair. You can almost count on your fingers the number of arcade ports that made it to any home system with the proper graphical horsepower, at least in the 8-bit days. The 2600 can yield a decent Pac-Man, just not a pixel-perfect one. The same is true for Centipede, Dig Dug, Moon Patrol, Pole Position, Ms. Pac-Man... Having said that, I like the name Hack 'Em. It keeps the Namco lawyers at bay, and it's a clever spin on both the original name and the process it took to produce the game.
Vic George 2K3
Definitely Hack 'Em, which is the closest thing the Atari 2600 will ever have to an arcade-identical version of Pac-Man.
Ringman
Of course no one knows of my hack doom 2600, but I guess I need to actuall finish it and make it official.... But anyway, I think wolfenstein 2600 gets my vote, though I agree with Hack'em that was an awesome achievement.
