tmont
What's your favorite video game music? We're talking in-game music, not "soundtracks to crappy video game music." And let's not include sound effects, because then we all know Frogger and Arcade Pac-Man would win unanimously. My personal favorites are Mega Man 2 and Crystalis for NES. I also liked the "Base" music in Contra. It had that nice groovy, almost pornographic quality to it that you just don't find in modern games. Oh, and let's keep it classic, as in anything up to, but not including, the Playstation. So, like pre-1995, or whenever the PS came out. madmjennifer
I don't know about favorite, but the music for the first and second levels of Super Mario Bros. on NES is indelibly linked with pizza in my mind because the first place I heard that music was in Pizza Hut. They had one of those cool table models. So, I guess that is my most memorable video game music. As for favorite music, I don't know. I always liked games that you could change the radio channel and hear a different song. I'm not sure which racing game that was on, but I'm pretty sure it was a racing game for SNES. Maybe Top Gear? SteveW
Battlemorph on the Jaguar would have to be my favorite. Other game music that I liked were: Rygar on the NES Thunder Castle on the Intellivision Shadow of the Beast on the Amiga and Atari Lynx Blood Money on the Amiga Leander on the Amiga Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar And even though it's really a group of different bands into a soundtrack and not "chip" music, Demolition Racer: No Exit on the Dreamcast had a hell of a good music lineup. Aaron
There were a lot of Amiga games with great music. Hired Guns and The Killing Game Show are probably my favorites. Leander, Blood Money, and SotB were mentioned already... The title music in Populous is good also.

dragonpup
Final Fantasy (NES), I can still hear the music from that game, especially from the first town/castle (Coneria or Cornelia), and the battle sequence music is unforgettable. Best video game music ever! Edited June 8, 2005 by dragonpup

tmont
I don't know if this music was in the original FFV, but the music from the Big Bridge is, in my opinion, the greatest song ever written. I don't have the original FFV, I have the FF Anthology or whatever for PS, so I'm not sure if that tune is on the original.
n8littlefield
I would have to say Katamari Damacy. Great soundtrack. I have to give some credit to the bonus room song in Skullmonkeys as well though...
