Dauber
Combat Pac-Man E.T. Those are the most valuable. They go for $2000 a piece easily, but you can have mine for $40 each. Seriously, though, welcome aboard!

Seriously, though, welcome aboard! I'm not talking about how valuable they are, but as in the best for playing. I do have combat, though, The original text one. Doesn't have a date on it, though. vdub_bobby
I'm new to collecting Atari games, so I need to know the best atari games to collect. Sorry if this has already been posted What do you mean by, "best"? If you are looking for the best games to play, you can start with the top-50 list; it's a pretty good list of the games that are the most fun to play. Or you can solicit suggestions, folks are always ready to tell you their favorite games (mine: Jr. Pac-Man, Stargate, Pitfall II ). If you are looking for the best games to collect, well, it depends on why you are collecting. If you want to collect the best-looking carts, the AA database has scans of most labels. If you want to collect the rarest carts, again, the AA database is also a rarity guide. Etc. etc. Welcome!
Dauber
Honestly, though, some of the best games to play are the homebrews...
Scumdogg
I think my favorite games at the moment are Spider-Man and The Empire Strikes Back. Actually, from the experience of my somewhat limited collection, Parker Bros. games in general seem to be pretty sweet. So grab those, if you see them. +atari2600land
My favorite games (at the moment) are Pole Position, Bowling, Frogger, and Grand Prix. And BTW, there's a zillion ROMs on AtariAge that you can play on an emulator before buying them.
Tompkins
Well, I'll see what they have, next Time of go to the sunday flea market (There is this guy there, who sells old games and merchandise. This is where I got my atari 2600)
shadow460
Hmmm, Space Invaders, Yars' Revenge, Subterranea, Galaxian, Warlords, The Empire Strikes Back, Kaboom!, Ram It!, Megamania... Those will get you started. A couple of them are rare, but worth the price you'd pay for them. That list pretty much runs the gamut of both rarity (up to 7) and it covers a few different companies. You should be able to find several good titles at the flea market this weekend. They'll probably be mostly Atari, but there's nothing wrong with that. I'd offer him an absolute maximum of $3 each, regardless of what the games are. If he refuses on a rare game, you can check the price/rarity online and make an appropriate offer the next time you go to the flea market. Happy gaming. Wait--it's a 2600, so "happy gaming" doesn't cut it. Excellent gaming, my friend. Edited October 3, 2006 by shadow460

jboypacman
Welcome to AtariAge.As far as recommended games.I would start going after common games at first. They are the easiest ones to get. Then start working your up to more rarer games.Homebrews are always recommended.Gunfight,Seawolf,Wolfenstein, and Hunchy2 are some ones i would suggest for you to try.Just buy what you dont have, what you had growing up,and just try diffrent games you may have never played or heard of before. You never know what you may like. Technosis
Everyone is different, but for me, must have's are: <snip> 3) Wizard of Wor. <snip> Yeah I'll second WoW. I really had a great time playing this one with my friends. The two player simultaneous mode makes for lots of strategies and funny hyjinks (oops...sorry I shot you again ). Funky sound effects make up for the supreme flickering....

I was just noting the lables, jeeze. I didn't mean to sound bad, or anything. I was asking 'cause I've got a few I'd be willing to let go at cost, but some of the labels are bad. One of the okayish labels is Wizard of Wor, actually.
ewomack
If we're talking best games to sit down and play, I still enjoy, even years later: Adventure Superman Yar's Revenge Haunted House Keystone Capers
Rik
Best games?I say there's no SUCH thing,Ive seen games reviewed as the worst games of all time in one review, and as the best game of all time in another, its all a matter of opinion and taste. Also, what do you mean by best?,best graphics, best gameplay, best replay value, the categories go on and on and and on.Its like saying "which brand makes the best car"?.I can name several games that are great graphics wise, but have (lack for a better term)crummy gameplay, and vice-versa,so its pointless in my opinion ,cause, if I recommended some games as the"best", they might NOT be the BEST in YOUR opinion!!,and you'll say,"man I thought he said these were the BEST games, but, they SUCK"!BUT,I'd say you cant go wrong with games by IMAGIC,which are known for great sharp graphics, and ACTIVISION,which are known for great graphics and gameplay. Tompkins
I went to the flea market, and bough 7 new games for only 21 dollars. Haunted house (good) Galaxian (Fun!) Vanguard (too easy) Astroblast (good for about 5 minutes) zaxxon (boring) Missle command (Really fun) Ms. Pacman. (fun!) That was all they had at the time (exept I didn't buy the pac-man they had, Because I heard about how much it sucks.) They are getting more next week. Most of them are fun, although, zaxxon is boring. Edited October 8, 2006 by Tompkins

I remember when my neigbors got Astrosmash for the Intellivision at the time....I couldn't get enough of it.....to bad I wasn't paying attention when M-Network released the vcs version. I've never really got into Galaxian that much. Vanguard, I can sometimes...I loved it in the arcades. Never bought zaxxon because I heard it was so crummy. I have it for the Colecovision. anyway....have fun!!
shadow460
Try Astroblast with the paddle controllers if you haven't already. IT adds a twist to the mind numbing shoot-em-up action. I guess with that game you either like it or hate it. I kinda like it.
