_Fandal_
It attached - though unfort there is a bug which I cannot fix - The autorun.sys used to load to CHR sets into memory and the basic file would alternate between them to give them motion. Either I cant find my final version or something went whacky - it doesnt work - I have to manually run the program to load 1 chr set in and then run the game. It only works in 800 mode. my friend who wrote the few ASM routines around the chr set flipping did something XL/XE OS doesnt like.................. Its a 32K basic program so hopefully you can learn something from it - maybe not The Break key is disabled but you can hit Reset and load in the files manually. I loved the Ultima series so I wrote a game in basic as best I could 20 years ago Well, I simply don't know what to do. How can I run your game? F. Ok it seems I have some missing items! All from Basic You need to load the file LOAD2.FNT on line 20 it sets up to load 2 font files - FOR and FOR2.FNT, for some reason FOR is not on the disk - I must be missing one of the font files that I need to dig for. Change FOR to FOR2.FNT and run it will error on LINE 90 for some reason - I dont know why - been a long time You can now run one of the following: DEMO (gives some instructions) FOREST (the game itself) You should be able to see/do everything - just the font doesnt change. It only runs under OS-B Another missing file "BEG" is required on line 150... F.
Xebec's Demise
My favorite J.D. Casten game is Biffdrop. Of course that means it is my favorite Atari BASIC game. You can play a flash version of Biffdrop at Casten's web site. Yes, he is alive and well but not desiging games anymore. http://www.jdcasten.info/ Very interesting bio to read: http://www.jdcasten.info/Personal/Bio-Time...o-time_line.htm

I mustve copied a work in progress - hopefully I can find another disk with more files! Funny the names and mistakes a 14 year old could do back then Ill see what I can dig up - thanks for looking! Goochman
Fandal, I found my 'production' version! - It works on an original 800 (tested OS-B) but it does not work on the Atari800emu The file chr.asm seems to crash it - which also crashes it under XL/XE OS. IIRC that is used to alternate between the chr sets automatically (my friend wrote it). I also found a working copy of my next title Sea Quest - Not sure if OS-B is required but for some reason it gets stuck running - if you hit break in time you can just hit Run and all is well - I think I forgot to do a GR.0 to change screens once the game loads - Anyhow, this was a nice artifact CHRSET I created - I made alot of progress on this game however some BASIC bug lost alot of my work (including bad disk saves ) so I stopped working on it. There is brown, blue, green and yellow created through the artifacting I did on this one. Oh well - hopefully you BASIC folks can get some use out of this. zuled_seaquest.zip
_Fandal_
Fixed. I only made some changes in LOAD2.FNT file. Moreover I cleaned the disk, only really used files are now there. And Sea Quest just needs one change in LOAD file on line 5000: RUN "D:SEA" instead of LOAD "D:SEA". F. I spent almost a year on this game (not to mention the 2 years prior figuring out how to do stuff) and was so disappointed I could never play on an XE - The first disk I loaded was a cut version with the chr set rotation taken out so I could play on the XE. Its nothing special in regards to 800 gaming but means alot to me - thanks for fixing! The one thing I didnt balance in this game was the casino - too easy to make money I fixed the Sea Quest image and have attached for the basic fans here - It is a joystick demo, though I had big plans seaquest_06.zip Edited November 10, 2006 by Goochman
www.atarimania.com
Let me add a public "thank you" to Fandal for fixing all these files! He deserves a lot of credit, though he's probably too modest to admit it! -- Atari Frog http://www.atarimania.com Edited November 10, 2006 by www.atarimania.com
highendsystems
How could you guys forget Strip Poker by Artworx. It probably uses a lot of ML routines, but it must boot with BASIC to work.

Wrathchild
I remember being impressed by a Microprose game written in BASIC. I think it was 'Chopper Rescue' and was just suprised to see it as 'missing' the the AtariMania archive - I'll need to check the loft. http://www.atarimania.com/detail_soft.php?...VERSION_ID=1049
kchris73
Castle Quest made me nervous at the higher levels, lots of fun. Gambler was a fun multi-player game with a few funny mini-games. Roadblock is one of my favorite games, easy to learn, up to 4 players (from what I remember, it requires BASIC, but may have essentially been a ML game). Wrathchild
I remembered yesterday one of my all time favourites! How could I have forgotten - grey cells on the way out... Wrathchild
Hi, I went and looked in the loft, first found just the box for Chopper Rescue, but then after further checking found a box with the tape and instructions in!! So I've wav2cas'd it (a bit of effort - hint - split parts into separate wav files, convert and then splice back the cas data into one file) and so here is the CAS file for the game. Loading instructions are simply attached the file to the emulator, boot to basic, type 'CLOAD' and enter/return, then after the 'READY' prompt, type 'RUN' and enter. The game will then auto load and run the second file. (Although its in basic - a case of early obfuscation if you try listing it) I'll see if find someone at work to scan the box and instructions for me and then forward those onto Atarimania. Enjoy, Mark microprose_chopper_rescue.zip
www.atarimania.com
Mark, This is great! We just uploaded a cracked disk version today so it's nice to have the tape image as well Does anybody have the re-release called Air Rescue I? Lord Thag
Temple of Apshai is a classic as are the other games using the same engine: Rescue at Rigel, Star Warrior and (especially) Crush Crumble and Chomp. Several of the Avalon Hill titles are pretty fun, I always liked Nukewar.
Voxel
Back in the day I used to play Galactic Trader, as it's in BASIC, it's only natural to list it, go snooping and change some of the code in my favour. That was always the best part about playing BASIC games, changing them. Also the plus when I typed in a BASIC listing it was guaranteed to be my kind of game afterwards. http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-galactic-trader_6862.html
