*DEAD* WTD WD1200JB Hard drive 120GB

I know this isn't quite the norm here, but I'm desperate... my HD crashed on my main system.

What I need to find is the controller board (which I can get from the whole drive, but just the board will work if security is an issue for you) from a Wester Digital 1200JB hard drive. Full MDL number has to be 1200JB-00DUA3, and the last 3 digits of the DCM need to be JAH. These numbers on on the sticker on the top of the drives... Please check see if you have this drive-- be happy to buy it outright, swap it for a larger newer drive, or just rent it from you for the baord, get my data and return it... thanks!

If your HD crashed, mostly likely the internals are busted like the read/write heads and spindle arms. A board exchange won't help much.

Most likely, usually yes. Not in this case I don't think though. There's a fried chip on the MB due to a spike in the power from the ice storms here this past week.

Sooo-- still looking.

Got a drive sitting here that's close ... maybe it'll work? Are there any ID numbers on the board itself I could check against?

I appreciate the offer, someguy, but I think I'm ging to hold out fo rthe moment on trying to find the right drive and avoid any potential damage to the drive head unit itself from a potentially non-compatible circuit board.

I actually found a guy on Ebay (theu Want it now) who was willing to help me-- but it was anonymous contact, and now i can't get back in touch with him as his listing was removed. :/

This was a common procedure in days past. We used to save the controller

boards from crashed hard drives, just for this purpose.

Usaully, when the computer power supply would die,it would spike some

horrible voltages through the system.
