Dreamcast Game Thoughts - part 12

All right! Two new Dreamcast games came from the ups man. Time to review them. First up is Frogger 2. I had the PSX version. I played it until level 2 and I died a whole bunch of times. I guess I was hoping the DC version was better. As it turns out, it is. I beat level 2. The fact that there are infinite lives helps a lot. One time, I got the game over screen and it turned black and nothing happened. The music was playing, though. This didn't happen the second time. I should mention the obsecenely long intro for four companies that you can't skip over and the loading times are horrendous. It takes you probably 90 seconds to get to the title screen after you turn the thing on. So how should I describe this? It's a lot like Frogger, only it's a platform game. Hopping and dodging enemies. The ultimate goal of the stage is to find the five baby frogs in the level. Once you find the fifth one (the red one) the level ends. Now I know what I was going to draw comparisons with: Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness. It's a lot like that (another Dreamcast title I have, although I got acquainted with the N64 one and bought it new.) The other game I got is Caesar's Palace 2000. The PSX version had two discs for some reason, but the DC only has one. The beefs are the game calls me novice. And there was a video poker coach telling me what I did wrong. Fortunately, you can turn the rather annoying coach feature off. The only time I spent was with Video Poker since it's my favorite casino game. I was doing pretty horribly until I got a 4 of a kind once and I ultimately gained $7. I wonder if William Bertram, Ph.D got a free copy, since it proudly displays his name on the back saying the odds were verified by him. How do you verify the odds? How do you program a casino game to have similar odds as in real life, especially in games like Roulette? So it's good. Both games are good. Finally, some good Dreamcast games. In part 12. Will more follow? Stay tuned...
