Mort the Chicken

I want to play video games with the original controllers and stuff that came with the console. Call me weird. In the case of Mort the Chicken for the PS1, though, I may have to change my thoughts. It's a collect-a-thon, a la Super Mario 64, only instead of the stuff collecting is stars (although there are stars in the game to collect, the manual states nothing about them, though.) the things you're collecting are chicks. And instead of Bowser you're fighting, it's a giant cube. Yes, it seems like cubes have invaded our world to free the cubes we've "enslaved." So, since Mario can't do it, we're left with a chicken. Not a coward, an actual chicken. Mort, to be exact. Who is hard to control with just a d-pad. So I may have to bust out the PSOne controller and stick that in there. I completed level 1, which is really easy because there's only one enemy in the whole level, a small green cube that moves back and forth. Although I quit for now playing on level 2 beginning, I saw that there are several more small green cubes in the level. Also, it was time to bust out my new to me second PS1 memory card. The previous owner loved RPGs. There was stuff saved like Final Fantasy and SimCity 2000 on it. Delete time! Make way, mighty Final Fantasy, for a Mort the Chicken save slot! In addition to chicks trapped in eggs for Mort to peck on (the eggs are Mort's equivalent to ? blocks), there are also coins to get to up, well, your score. I don't know how the final showdown between Mort and the giant cube leader is going to happen, since Mort's only attack is to peck. (Mort CAN jump, however, so at least he has that going for him. If only Captain Toad knew how. By the way, the levels are akin to Captain Toad levels, where you have only small places to go around.) You can't peck at a giant cube. But you can peck at the healthy stuff like corn and beans scattered around on various places in the levels. Using corn as a power-up. That's brilliant! So, will I die a horrible chicken death? I'll only know if I keep on playing...
