Odyssey 2's The Voice Module
So I was programming the My Stomach Hurts game when I decided I should try my Voice module on. The first thing to do was to open it. Once again, I used pliers to open something up. This took about 15 minutes because the pliers kept slipping. After getting three screws open, I noticed a fourth in a really hard to reach position. After getting the fourth one open, I took it apart and looked around. All the wires looked okay and plugged in. I kept it opened as I put it back into the Odyssey 2. After a dozen times, sometimes hitting it, I got it to work. But not with my game. As it turns out, it was a combination of my code being wrong and the Voice semi-working. Now I tried to make the code work. I discovered I did indeed need to silence the thing before each phrase, but I couldn't reach another bank of phrases. After a half hour of trying different things, I got it to work on a different bank. Phrases and diphthongs on the Voice are stored in things called banks. You can read more on an Odyssey 2 tech document if you're interested. I had first used the Voice on a game called Walls (CR-003), and used it again on a game called The 50-Foot Tall Stalk of Celery, made before the Mr. Celery Show episodes I have been working on. I thought it to be good on My Stomach Hurts. Now whenever you miss, it says "Ouch", a hit says "Ahhh." and game over, it says "Oh no!" (like on K.C.'s Krazy Chase) I put in an order of a homebrew game called "Free Food For Fish." I've decided to redo the Odyssey 2 Adventure newsletter and the next issue will be November/December 2015 issue. So it's a late review, I know, but I thought "why not?" And, I still need suggestions on what to do next for "My Stomach Hurts!", so play the latest binary file and tell me what to do. http://www.atari2600land.com/mystomachhurts/
