eBay craziness / an answer

So I went on eBay's forums and told them what happened. Someone answered me and said it was a new "feature" because some sellers weren't happy that they weren't getting paid for their items immediately. So what, is using my PayPal balance not immediately? I don't know. Well, I guess it's sort of happy because I thought I had done something wrong. Good to know it's not my fault, BUT eBay should have told everyone that this was going into effect.

I've been working on a new Game Boy project all my waking hours. I have been experimenting on GBC and SGB colors using it. I have been staying awake for 12 hours and sleeping for 14. That is 26 hours instead of 24. It makes me wish the day had 26 hours so I could go to sleep and wake up at the same time. But it's not. Oh well.

Nothing really crazy about it. First thing that it says is, "If the seller accepts, we’ll use your selected payment method to process your order. We won’t share these details with the seller." The, it goes on to say, "By selecting Make Offer, you authorize eBay to charge your payment method for the order total if the seller accepts your offer. You also agree to eBay’s User Agreement and Privacy Notice," and, "You will only be charged if this offer is accepted." All on the payment selection page.

From a seller's standpoint, this is a very important system. I had an average of 8 unpaid transactions per month. While the fees are assessed upon payment, a $0.30 transaction fee was charged each time. Cost me almost $30/year because people wouldn't follow through. Others would buy it, then message me and say that they get paid in 8 days and they'll pay me then, like I'm running a layaway service, and around half the time they wouldn't anyway.

Just wait to buy it until you're ready to pay for it and there won't be any issues in the future.

That's greedy of ebay to charge a fee even if the person never pays for it. As to what is crazy about atari2600land's experience is that ebay wasn't using his PayPal acct to pay for the offer, but wanted a bank acct instead. This payment method requirement for making offers started on ebay at least a year ago, but I don't recall having a problem with it using my PayPal acct to do so.

@pedalpowered ebay uses whatever payment method you select at the time that you authorize immediate payment, when you make an offer. You are required to select payment method, authorize it, and confirm authorization each time. OP just wasn't paying enough attention to what he was clicking the first time, but that happens to all of us from time to time.
