AE-02 Fruit Fly Fun

Work resumes on Fruit Fly Fun for the Atari 2600.

Today's "lovely" tasks were trying to keep a stable 262 scanlines between the switch from the intro to the title screen (that doesn't have the title on it. I could call it "The Mashed Potatoes Uprising" and I wouldn't have to change anything.)

I also made it so the swatter can go down a bit further so it's easier to swat the flies at the bottom of the screen. That created a problem with the swatter handle so I fixed that too.

One thing I want to change is the fact that the action is taking place outside. I can't change it because I can't find a good enough wall color so that all the sprites are visible. So it will have to be this way.

My neck has decided it likes to start hurting. The left side of my neck hurts if I move my head in any direction.

My approach to Atari 2600 programming is: "What hasn't been done yet?" A game about nosehair trimming hasn't been done. That was my own idea. Then I thought about the Mario Paint mingame about swatting flies and I thought it could be done in 2k. And I did. The reason I made it 4k is I couldn't fit the AE intro in and still have it be just 2k. I'm just thankful Atari made it possible to do 4k games without bankswitching.

So what's next? What game should I make next for the Atari 2600? Well, though it seems like I'm working on mpultiple games at the moment, I don't know. Here's a list of games I'm working on at the moment:

  1. Chris's Casino (Virtual Boy)
  2. Frank the Fruit Fly 2 (Game Boy)
  3. Flying Hamburgers (Game Gear)
  4. Minigame Mayhem (Virtual Boy)

Although it's been like a week or so since I've worked on #2, longer for #1 and #4.
