Hi there!
Yup, Footballer of the Year is a sports game:
Of ourse, it's not a real soccer game, but just one of those ever popular soccer managers
I even owned it as kid, it came with a compilation from Gremlin called "10 Great Games". Actually "9 Average and 1 Good Game" would've been a much more appropriate title, but it sure was a lot to play for the price of one
This soccer manager has a totally unique twist: You're not managing a team, but just one single player! As the title suggest, you want to become the "Footballer of the Year".
So at the beginning you create a player and choose a team, but you can easily transfer to another team if you want to. During normal league play, you can use so called "goal cards". This'll give you a random 1-3 chances to score a goal in a game. In the screen above you see the (ugly) goalscene minigame. Of course you can still lose a match, if the other team scores 5 goals against your team, even when you alone scored 3. It's just beyond your control. Of course if you really manage to add 3 goals for your team in a game, chances of winning are pretty good.
Tonight I played a first season. It went pretty good, but of course I didn't instantly become the Footballer of the Year
Not sure what the winning conditions are, maybe tomorrow I'll figure out some more.
Greetings,
Manuel
