New Computer

Well, I finally did it: I got a new computer. It has 3 GB of memory and a 500GB hard drive with an AMD Athlon X2 7550 Dual-core processor (whatever that means.) Unfortunately, the darn thing came with Vista, so hopefully Windows 7 will be better than it. We went to Office Max earlier today and bought it even though I had a stomach ache. This means though that I had to miss my sister's barbecue (that and I wanted to set up the computer.) So after going through all the rigamarole of trying to turn it on (i eventually discovered the power button was on the side of the tower, not on the front like i was used to.) I am still getting used to Vista and Word after years of being used to XP and Works. Word 2007 is very weird, there's no "File" with the usual "print" "save" "save as" commands like everyone was used to. No, they had to go and change it like it needed to be changed. I also figured out how to get on the internet with it. I found solitaire and beat the first game I played with it (which i wish was a good sign but probably isn't. There goes my pessimism again.) Now I have to rip all the long songs I had again and make a new Excel document of my 2600 games. The thing came with a 20-inch flat screen monitor which I am also getting used to. I think the monitor is way too big and long, but it came with the computer so it'd be a shame not to use it. So, i now have a new toy to play with.

Dual-Core means there's 2 CPUs on the same chip/package. They started doing this because of problems increasing the GHz. I would love to get a Mac Pro with 2 Quad-Cores, for a total of 8 CPUs :ponder:

The latest version of Office uses a ribbon instead of the usual menubar. I find it annoying as well. Why do you have to redo your long songs and excel sheets? Did your old drive crash?

A 20" monitor is nice, but after using a 24" I doubt I could go back down to 20. For programming the bigger screen is very handy.

Well, I don't HAVE to, I want to have a copy of it on my computer also. I guess I could take the CD I want from off the shelf and play it (like what I've been doing. The computer I've had for 3 and a half years is going in the den and will be my mom's, but we haven't set it up yet.

If the old computer's working you can just copy the files over. Does the old computer have a CD (or DVD) burner? Are they networked together? If neither of those then get a USB memory stick.
