    On October 14, 1988, Chuck Forsberg releases the ZMODEM specification. Zmodem is a file transfer protocol that superscedes both XMODEM and Forsberg's own YMODEM (see http://timeline.textfiles.com/1988/10/14/1/FILES/zmodem.txt). 
     
    The YMODEM protocol specification, which was introduced in 1985, was documented and re-released on this day as well (see http://timeline.textfiles.com/1988/10/14/1/FILES/ymodem.txt).

    FoReM XE on this date in 2021 was restored back to service. Part of the Southern Amis Projects and run by Sysop Giarc The Warden of Alcatraz BBS: alcatrazbbs.ddns.net port 9000
    Feature enhancements as well as code improvements for modem and wait call routines increase reliability which provide the consistent uptime and confidence of continued service of FoReM XE. Accessible at foremxebbs.ddns.net port 9999 in Atari/Atascii mode for the best atari bbsing experience. 
     
     FoReM XE BBS software was released.  FoReM XE, developed by Matthew Singer, is an Atari 8-bit BBS written in the BASIC XE programming language. Previous versions of FoReM were written in BASIC XL and Atari Basic (see the Atari Frequently Asked Questions by Michael Current for a list of versions). FoReM XE is in the public domain. 
     
     
    The Southern Amis Projects, restores and preserve Atari BBS history. Rebuilding BBS programs for the Atari 8Bit  back to ready-to-use reliability and completeness of documentation, source code and sysop support. All BBS's are run active and shared on southernamis.com upon final user testing and completeness of each version for real-hardware, modem, Fujinet, and Emulators. To-date over 10 BBS's from AMIS, FoReM, ESP, AtariLink, Phonem, NightShift, Hutch BBS,NiteLite, Others have been restored under the project.
