Brian R.
I still can't see how Target can legally sell something as "new" that is a return/refurb. Unless they're going to be marked as such. The ad doesn't say anything about "new". Just says that they'll have units for that price. And more tell tale - "Quantities limited no rainchecks", which is their way of covering for the fact that its not a significant enough stock that all stores will have them let alone have more than a couple each. I don't know about you, but when I buy something at WalMart, Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc., I expect that what I'm buying is new and unused, unless it's an open box, display or something like that. So that it's "new" is implied. And the ad does say Flashback 2.0. Edited November 22, 2007 by Brian R.

Or they could just be stock pulled from stores they didn't move from (way back) and are being brought out again at different locations. The point is you have no idea until you actually go there and see what's on the floor, instead of sitting here and reading a lot of different things in to it. Making more assumptions and ranting about them supposedly trying to sell used stuff as new, when there hasn't even been anything sold yet, is not really making much sense. By the way everyone, happy thanksgiving!

I think it's pretty safe to assume that these are new units. When was the last time you went to Target or Wal-Mart for something they advertised in their flier, only to see that the item is "refurbished" or in some other "not new" condition? They probably have been sitting on these for a while or they bought a pile from another retailer, or any of tons of other rational explanations for why they have some on hand to sell. I'm willing to bet that there are laws that state an advertised item is assumed new unless otherwise stated ("Used", "Reburbished", "Returns", etc.) Otherwise this would be a nice bait-and-switch tactic. ..Al
Prodos8
As cheap as these things are, I can't believe they'd go through the trouble to refubish them anyway. Its not like they're $600 PS3's for petes sake. They'll be new, but perhaps hard to find or in very small quantities.
Asaki
I've boughten lots of things on clearance that were obviously returns (and not marked as such). Except for the Atari keychain joystick, they've all worked just fine. I don't see what's so wrong with it. Most people buy stuff and realize they bought the wrong thing, or just decided they didn't want it...I'm sure if they took it back and stated that something was actually wrong with it, they wouldn't throw it back on the shelves. I'll gladly pay $17 for a Flashback that may have already been looked at.

Sure, we've all bought "clearance" items that were returns, but doesn't it seem unlikely that Target would have enough "returns" on hand that they would advertise them in a national flyer? My guess is that they are just using Black Friday as an opportunity to clear out whatever stock the stores happen to have left. That's why quantities are limited. I'd say that unless you know for sure that your Target still has them (none of mine seem to) then you would probably be wasting your time. On the other hand, if you are going anyway, can't hurt to look.

I'm thinking the same, and after looking through the ads, there's nothing else I want...but I'll probably go anyway =/ I haven't seen one for sale since a year ago when I bought one (as a gift). I'm a sucker.

Asaki
Well, the lady said they had some, but they were all gone. They'll be on eBay in two days for $50 with the word "RARE!" plastered all over it
Fort Apocalypse
Looks like you can get it online for the same price! Flashback 2 at Target online for $17.00! http://www.target.com/Atari-Flashback-2/dp...%202&page=
phil_vr
Just gave a Flashback 2.0 a new home! Fresh from Target! I waited in line, and by the time they opened the gates I searched and searched but could not find it anywhere. Of course there was a heavyload of people so I kept going through isles. I even did the mistake to ask a few employees there and these are the answers I got: 1. "This is discontinued man!" 2. "Should be on the electronics isle" where it was a snake pit and there was no way they would display it next to Xbox and Playstation 3. 3. "I dont think we carry this, maybe its a mistake of the circular" 4. "Whatever is on the isles man". Getting those responses got me discouraged and I was about to give up. Last moment I headed to the gate that the employees were going in and out carrying Playstation 3. I spotted a guy coming in and I asked him and showed him in the circular if he has this on his warehouse. The guy was polite and kind and he went in to search. It took a while and I thought that there were none left. He opened the door carrying 2 Flashbacks and told me that they were all he got in there. I got both and run towards the cash register. For my freaking luck they would not accept debit, and I didnt had my credit with me. So my cash was barely enough for the one unit and sadly I paid and left, keeping always my eye on the one that got left behind. Anyway.. This is the baby that managed to get home safe and sound. Hope you guys did ok and found the Flashbacks available. On my Target there were only two units. I guess this is pretty much the case for all Targets (I had the impression of a pile of them or enough to be on a display). Good luck guys.. Retro Rogue
I had just missed them at my store as well. Got there at 6:45 (sorry, but the 500gb external drive for $99 at BestBuy came first), and had just missed the last one. They weren't on the shelf space, they had them on the floor behind the counter (along with 360's and ps3's). They must have only had 10-15 of them. hairyguyforever
Look better.. its out of stock! They were available in the online store earlier this morning. I got online and ordered one as soon as I woke up. Glad I did too, seeing as how they're all gone now. Later!

Man I must be lucky today, I slept in and went to my local Target and grabbed the last one. They had them on an endcap so I assume they had more than 10-15 of them. Retro Rogue
My guess at this point is what I had said previously - they probably had stock from more "rurally" located Targets that didn't sell and was returned back to the distribution centers where they sat the past year until now. PacManPlus
The Target by me (in Copiague) didn't even put them out. I had to ask three different managers about them. They finally brought one out. So I bought six of them. I went back later for a different reason and they STILL didn't put them out.

+Guitarman
I went to my Target here in Carson. They had 1 left and the top of the box was torn. They gave me 10% off and I bought it. I had them check the Reno store, which said they had some, so I drove out there. Ended up buying 9 there, and they still had plenty left. I'll end up using the one with the torn box for my personal/mod Flashback, and keep 2 unopened. The rest......
Curt Vendel
You guys are great! I gotta tell you, reading everyone's stories, I am so impressed at even now - 2 years later, everyone is still going after the FB2's... sheez, the way you guys talk, you'd think you were scoring a Wii or something :-) Well, some big news coming soon, Marty knows all about it and he's preparing his own News Release as is a friend of Mike Stulir from Wired magazine. Some things are being ironed out legal wise in the background and once its all wrapped up, everyone is in for a big surprise... Biggest part is, it has NOTHING to do with Atari, it does however have to do with a video game company that was started back in the early 1980's and is making a comeback is a HUGE way. Stay tuned... Albert
I'm glad to hear that people were able to find and purchase Flashback 2 units today! I avoid "Black Friday" like the plague and am happy to sit at home avoiding the ridiculous crowds. I'm guessing these were the last of the Flashback 2 consoles we're going to see anytime soon (if ever again).. Look forward to hearing your announcement, Curt! ..Al
antron
Commodore? If it is then I hope they ditch microsoft. I remember firing up my old 128, and seeing "Copyright Microsoft" on the screen. It meant nothing then, but now.... I wanted to cry. At least the 64 mode was untainted (and that's where all the games resided) Well? Prodos8
I went by the Super Target in Plano for beer and snacks, but picked up a FlashBack 2.0 also. They had at least ten or so on an end cap display. I really just wanted another set of the joy sticks or something to give away as a gift at the office.
