Not sure where to put this but here seems good. I just put up a new contest on the Chasethechuckwagon Forums, this should be a fairly easy contest as I'm just trying to clear up some space. So head on over and see if you can win! :D

Congrats to BruceBidder who won the contest much quicker than I thought anyone would, but I have constructed a new contest so you still have a chance to win something :D

Glad to see many new AA'ers are getting on board. Still growing and amazing we will be coming up to 1-Year anniversary in a few months.

We are nearly at 1,700 members and have been working hard to improve our search standings so to bring more people to the marketplace to bid on your items.

So far doing pretty nicely. Google video game auctions, video game auction site and we are coming up at the top. Recently started doing what we can to bring in more people who search under - buy sell video games and starting to do better there.

Don't lose the faith, and please continue listing on the Chuckwagon. We are coming up higher than ever on the search engines so need your listings to keep the buyers coming.

Thanks again to all of you who are registered ! Hope to see some of you on the video gaming trade show circuit this year. Look for the Chuckwagon at a few of the regional expos and shows!

We just hit 1,700 members today. If you have yet to join, give us a shot. We are needing everyone to register to hit our goal of 2,000 members by end of March.

For those of you still on the fence, use the Chuckwagon and Ebay at the same time. Many of our members link their Ebay auctions to their Chuckwagon auctions and vice versa (in their auction listing descriptions). That way they are still getting traffic to both their auction stores and still paying alot less than having all your items on Ebay. Then as we continue our growth you can slowly start bringing more of your items over to the Chuckwagon and eventually, stop using Ebay altogether. And keep in mind our items are fed directly into http://www.oodle.com to bring even more traffic to your items. This combined with our higher search engine rankings will bring the traffic. Now we need to just convert more of you over to listing some of your items on the Wagon.

And I know many of you have been using the Chuckwagon. Some successfully, some not. In order to be successful on the Chuckwagon or Ebay, you must promote your auctions in the forums. So many times I see members not doing this with the Chuckwagon, but doing it with their Ebay stuff. If you are listing on the Chuckwagon please post links to your auctions in these and other forums to bring bidders to your item (as well as into the Chuckwagon community).

You have noticed a few other gaming marketplaces appear, but most are putting some weird spin on the auction format. Not us. The auction format invented by Ebay is still the best format, even though Ebay continues to stray from it. Our site is simple to use, and very familiar to you if are an Ebay user.

There is no better place to buy and sell video games than on ChaseTheChuckwagon.com.

Help us hit our goal of 2,000 members.

I will be exhibiting at the 2009 Portland Retro Gaming Expo on Sunday, Sept. 20th. This gives us a reason to have a Chuckwagon roundup on Saturday evening, September 19th.

I am still putting the details on this, but I think it will involve getting down with some classic arcade games at http://www.groundkontrol.com.

And maybe a dinner somewhere. For those of you in that neck of the woods please try and make it. I would love to meet you all in person and I am sure other Chuckwagon members would feel the same.

If you know in advance you will be attending our Northwest roundup, please RSVP here: http://www.chasingthechuckwagon.com/forum/...display.php?f...

I will be exhibiting at a couple other expos this year as well, so follow that thread to learn of any other Chuckwagon Roundups in your neck of the woods.

Also, be sure to follow our official "blog" now up and running. You can find it here: http://chasethechuckwagon.blogspot.com/

We passed 4,000 consecutively running auctions tonight. The Chuckwagon is continuing to grow, adding over 80 new members so far this month. We will be hitting our 2,000 members in a few weeks making the Chuckwagon the single most successful video gaming auction site ever. Thanks to everyone for listing more and more items.

We will be starting our second year with 2,000+ members strong !

For our 1-year anniversary we are making a few changes, for the better. First off, our homepage is going to get cleaned up with a newer style drop down menu system. The Search bar will be relocated above in our header area and will integrate the "advanced search", "recently listed", and "ending" buttons. The featured item photos will then be raised right up underneath the main header.

An exciting feature that you will notice very soon is our integrated blog feature that will include areas for polls. The very cool thing about the blog/Polls area is that key words taken from the blog will generate an auction list of items discussed in the blog. This will be another opportunity for auctions to be viewed by our members. The blogs will be gaming oriented. I will also be looking for some of you to contribute blogs to this area as well.

And in the not to distant future members will have the capability to have their own blogs that will tie in to your Chuckwagon homepage/storefront.

There are a few other things I've been working on so stay tuned for year #2!

Hello Chuckwagon Community –

ChaseTheChuckwagon.com turns 1.

Well we did it. Tomorrow, March 24th, 2009 is ChaseTheChuckwagon.com’s 1-Year anniversary. This past year has gone faster than a game of Defender! To sum up our first year as a video gaming auction community I think it’s best to see our 1-year statistics:

Total Members: 2,111

Total Listings: 90,550

Total Uploaded Photos: 71,557

Total $ Sold: $76,681.76

Total Searches: 398,458

Total Item Views: 922,308

Without a doubt, the first year has been an overwhelming success. When I launched, most wrote it off right from the beginning saying no one can start an auction site in this day and age. Others have tried and failed. So based on these assumptions, the Chuckwagon will go down in flames, as well. Not so. In this past year we have all contributed to the sustained growth of what is now the most successful gaming auction site in history. And it is still growing to the tune of 175-200 members each month.

Now, I’ve said it before and will say it again. As I look through the forums on a daily basis, many of you continue to feed the monster that is Ebay. Even after a year it is evident many of you still have no faith in the Chuckwagon. I would like to know why, as it is clearly working on so many levels, some of you are still leary of listing? For those of you that are using Ebay, please let me know how much of your stuff is selling, how much isn’t? What are they charging you each month? And, most importantly, why still use them based on your answers? Now I have been using Ebay long enough to know that it doesn’t work all the time. At least when I do video game searches the majority of the stuff I see isn’t selling, or selling for prices less than that from a few years ago. I see common items sitting stagnant. I see rare and harder to find items continuing to sell. These are the same things I see on the Chuckwagon. It mirrors exactly what types of listing sell and don’t sell on Ebay.

No Fees For 30-Days! Kick Ebay to the Curb.

I really want all of you who are still hesitant to list on the Chuckwagon to try it out. So until April 30, 2009 I am waiving all listing fees (well, these are always free) and selling/final value fees. This will give you no excuse to not at least try listing some items on the Chuckwagon. Please give the Chuckwagon a chance, as listing a single, common game cartridge, will not give you a true picture of how our site is working. List on it for 30-days just like you would on Ebay and see the results. You can set a reserve price to cover you’re a$$ at no cost. Now, if you elect to use listing promotional items like home page featured items, category featured items, bold titles or highlighted listings you will be charged a small fee. But if not, you won’t pay a penny to list and sell your items. Please note that at the end of April I will go in and credit all your accounts back to a $0 balance (final value fees, reserve price fees, but not listing promotional options as discussed above). Now is the time to give the Chuckwagon a thorough test-drive and free yourself from Ebay, its moron policies and escalating fees!

I hope many of you will take me up on this offer. You now have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

To those of you who have shifted the majority of your auctions over to the Chuckwagon, I thank you all. I believe, if you look back over the past year, you will see how much money you’ve saved in fees and it will be significant. And, at the same time, those of you who are using the Chuckwagon on a continuous basis have also seen the sales results that keep you coming back listing after listing after listing. This should be a great indicator to those of you still on the fence that the site is working, just as well as Ebay!

For our second year I am sure our growth will continue. I am ramping up a Facebook ad campaign as well as other new marketing strategies that will continue to bring in more and more buyer and seller traffic to the site. Looking back over this past year I see how far we’ve all come and I can tell already that our second year will outshine the first. I hope you all have as much faith in this as I.

Please communicate with me at socalmike@chasethechuckwagon.com whenever you please. As most know I do all I can to cater to our members needs, suggestions, comments and questions. Our forums are starting to grow more rapidly and it is also a great place to meet your fellow Chuckwagon members and discuss the auction site and gaming, in general. Here’s to a second year of success for all of us!

And. . . . .The Chuckwagon rolls on!

So Cal Mike, Owner

ChaseTheChuckwagon.com

Last night we surpassed 100,000 auction listings since launching back on March 24, 2008. The good news is we are growing even faster this year than last, upping our average monthly member registrations from 150 to over 175/month. In March we had 193 new members and we are off to match that again this month.

Our affiliate program is in full swing as is our Twitter campaign. So that is all helping to bring in a more diverse member base (not just collectors).

Bidding #'s and sales #'s are also continuing to rise as is our unique visitors as we are up to around 20,000 uniques per month.

So lots of things going right for us again this year. Here's to hoping some of you will keep us in mind for your auction listings and be sure to check our site weekly as we have tons of new items listed daily.

I was busily listing items yesterday and will continue to do so today.

The site has really come along nicely. While eBay just makes things harder to use and charges more, Mike has made the Chuckwagon easier and easier to use and it's free or at least next to it, even if you don't buy the lifetime subscription. I've had my problems with it in the past, but after my eBay bill of over $50 last month and tons of stuff that did not sell I think I am pretty much done.

I like the Chuck and hope it succeeds.

I can get carts for just 0.99 a pop usually without any competing bids. I suppose the seller will need to determine if they are better off on eBay or not considering their higher fees versus the lower costs and lower traffic of the Chuck. This is the concern I have and what's available for the 5200, 7800 and Colecovision is "slim pickin's" right now.

I hope this trend doesn't bury the Chuck and that they will continue to grow.

Just like on Ebay, sometimes things sell for more than other times. We have quite a bit of activity and it does grow, as it should, every month as we populate. To see some of the activity of the site you can click on the Listings drop down menu and check out the top-10 running and completed items.

Happy Easter everyone :)

I am certainly happy to see a challenge to Ebay. Video game and computer stuff is pretty much all I buy on Ebay, because I can (and do) get everything else locally.

I know the proprietor is NOT going to want to hear this suggestion. I know what I am going to say is NEVER going to happen; it would be impractically difficult.

I think a big drawback to the Chuckwagon is name. I think this is huge. When I've told people about the Chuckwagon, they say "WHAT?" Then they attempt to analyze the name in a stutteringly ignorant voice....Chase what? Chuckwagon? They don't have any idea what I'm talking about. They suspect I'm bullsh*tting them, or just full of it in general. They don't get the reference, and hence they don't easily remember the URL.

Personally, I think of the old dog food commericials (not video games):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BBqgMQluDM

I think a name that is short and easy to remember, and conjures up a mental hook of what you're trying to sell (i.e. "gameauctions.com" or "Gamebay" or similar stuff) would have really helped the Chuckwagon. I think the best hope of beating (or matching) Ebay would be such a route. When people think of online auctions, they think Ebay. When they think of online game auctions, they think ______________ (you fill the blank). I just think it's going to be hard to get them to fill that blank with "Chase the Chuckwagon" because if they're old enough to remember the 70s they'll think of dog food. If they're today's kids, they won't even know the reference.

I think the Chuckwagon looks great, and I really like what you're doing there. I just can't help but think this is a setback in business. If you have a HUGE advertising budget, you can go "counterculture" in your name and advertising and MAKE YOUR NAME synonymous with your product or service. I mean, when I first heard "AMAZON.COM" all I could think of was the river. Then it became synonymous with online books. Then pretty much anything. I have a feeling HUGE dollars made that happen.

You know they're going to have to stay away from "Gamebay" - but I think your point is well taken.

They could add a DNS record to redirect from a "gameauctions.com" URL to the CTCW site. DNS would ease the transition should they change the name. Although, I would think they could continue to use their existing name in conducting business.
