What have you actually PLAYED tracker for 2011 (Season 4)

Recommended Posts

BTW I'm assuming that the Sears Pinball/Breakaway dedicated console is the same as the Sears Video Pinball System which I already had in the database. If that's incorrect, please let me know.

Yep. Rebadged C-380. :) It can be quite addictive too.

My times so far this week:

Intellivision:

Beamrider - 6 min.

Fathom - 35 min.

Frog Bog - 7 min.

Pinball - 11 min.

Thin Ice - 21 min.

Thunder Castle - 48 min.

Tron Solar Sailer - 13 min.

Turbo - 32 min.

I got Beamrider, Fathom, Tron Solar Sailer and Turbo in a recent trade, and enjoyed checking all four out, especially Fathom. I haven't really figured out what's going on in Solar Sailer -- I suspect it's a "faux-complex" game that's a lot simpler (shallower?) than all the jargon makes it seem. Turbo's control scheme is misguided at best, but overall it's not quite as bad as some have claimed, though once you take a hit, the inevitable series of rear-end collisions is aggravating.

I also played a few games with my girlfriend: Pinball, Thin Ice, and our old standby Frog Bog. Thin Ice is starting to wear thin (ha ha), unfortunately -- the seal is just too aggressive and since your "freezes" don't affect him (which is a strange design decision), it seems more or less impossible to pull off any of the large-scale shapes that make games like Qix so satisfying.

OTOH, Pinball is great! I'd never really played it before, but it's surprisingly fun.

2600:

Kaboom! 35min

Missile Command 1.25hrs

5200:

Sinistar 40min

Kaboom! 1.5hrs

A8:

Joust 20min

I use Kaboom and Missile Command for testing 2600 systems after repairs so they get much more play than they otherwise would. :)

Here are my times for this past week:

Arcade:

Puzz Loop - 7 min.

Route 16 - 3 min.

Tapper (Budweiser) - 21 min.

Atari 2600:

F40 - 2 min.

Colecovision:

Destructor - 32 min.

Dukes of Hazzard - 2 min.

Tapper - 26 min.

Intellivision:

Diner - 349 min. in 5 sessions

Total gaming time: 442 min. (63 min. per day)

I played a surprising variety of classic games this week, although it was one single game I spent the majority of playing time with... "Diner" on the Intellivision. But by now, I think I'm through with it. I reached Level 13 on multiple occasions, but never managed to beat that level. And a game up to level 13 already takes 27-28 minutes. This now violates two of my selfmade guidelines, saying that I'll abandon a game where either no further progress was achieved during 30 minutes of play, or the games start to take longer than 17 minutes each, which they already do.

On the Colecovision, I played "Destructor" again. Actually, a map is not really needed for this one since it's not necessary to stray too far away from your mothership, and you can easily find its location relative to yours on the small map at the top of the screen.

Then I tried "Dukes of Hazzard" again, but what one reviewer said about the steering seems to be true... I didn't manage to just stay in the middle of the road, and it's pretty unrealistic as well, although the graphics displays hills and flying over hills (apparently), at a time when Outrun and even Enduro Racer were still years away. There also seem to be no forks in the road where you would be able to decide which way to go.

Then I played "Tapper" again, both on the Colecovision (here the 26 minutes were one single game on the lowest skill level) and the arcade version (where the 21 minutes were multiple games). In addition to that, I tried the arcade games "F16" (which turned out being a different game than I thought it would be) and Puzz Loop (the "original" version to Zuma and its various clones).

Lastly, on the Atari 2600 I tried the still unfinished homebrew game "F40", which basically is a car race in the vein of "Monaco GP" or "Spy Hunter", but, as I said, it's unfinished. There's scrolling graphics on the left and right hand side of the road, but it clearly only depicts some binary pattern. Your car and the enemies are nicely drawn, but it still lacks a goal you have to achieve or something like that...

Here are my times for the week. I have accomplished much. I spent 1848 minutes playing video games this week! That's almost 31 hours:

NES:

The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy - 130 minutes

Bignose the Caveman - 87 minutes

Tetris - 10 minutes

Game Boy:

Pokemon Red Version - 93 minutes

Pokemon Blue Version - 71 minutes

Sega Genesis:

Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge - 125 minutes

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine - 59 minutes

The Jungle Book - 39 minutes

Sonic Spinball - 38 minutes

Taz-Mania - 35 minutes

Ms. Pac-Man - 34 minutes

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - 16 minutes

Sega 32X:

Knuckles' Chaotix - 213 minutes

Playstation:

Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus - 603 minutes

Bust-A-Move 2 - 39 minutes

Nintendo 64:

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - 199 minutes

Star Fox 64 - 57 minutes

What I did

NES: Dizzy and Bignose are beat. Bignose took 2 attempts. Haha the first time I died trying to fight the last boss with one life and no powerups. Tetris I got to level 9 starting at 0.

Game Boy: In Pokemon Red I got sick of trying to get the last 8 elusive Pokemon after evolving the rest I needed from stones. Pokedex is 116 while it is possible to get 124 Pokemon in a single playthru of Red with no trading. I started on Pokemon Blue Version because I wanted more action rather than just grinding.

Genesis: I beat all of these games in one sitting each. They're all short games, but Spider-Man/X-Men is the hardest. Thanks to an easy extra lives trick, I was able to complete it but it took me a lot more tries causing the game to take longer.

32X: Knuckles Chaotix is 100% complete. The later chaos rings took plenty of attempts before I got them so this game took a long time.

Playstation: Oddworld 2: Abe's Exoddus is done. I saved all but 12 mudokons as I wasn't using a guide and probably missed them in the first half of the game. Beat another row of puzzle stages in Bust-A-Move 2.

Nintendo 64: Beat Star Fox 64 on the easiest path and beat 2 levels of Zelda Ocarina of Time.
