adam242
Picked up my third 400 today, just because. This one came with the original box and packaging. 017464, built 09/82. Fits nicely between Nature Boy's and jacobus' third entry. I still don't understand why the printed label (which was loose in the box) doesn't match. Redemption
Adding mine to the pile. If there is any other information you want me to get I will be happy to do so, just bear in mind I am pretty new to the Atari so I may need to have it broken down for me dummy style. 479368 AV 173284 9/29 Atari / 402 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/176199-calling-all-400s/page/9/#findComment-4217331 Share on other sites
Geister
I just got my first Atari computer back from my sister. It's a 400 i bought back in 1983 and gave to my sister and her kids in 1985 or 1986. I had upgraded it to 48K and added a B-key keyboard. Here's few pictures of the manufacturing date and serial number. The thing needs a good cleaning, but it survived three kids and more than 30 years. Geister
Yeah, I'd give that top position. I'd still like to see pictures of Colleen and Candy from back in the day. I bet they had "Big Hair". The 70's were known for that. +kheller2
Sigh. The 400 is the only A8 I’ve never owned, I think. (That and a 1450 TONG). There was a beautiful 400 on Craigslist the other day but was way too expensive. Maybe someday. Tea Party
Just getting back into Atari 8 bits after many, many years away and bought myself a 400 a few days ago. I worked in development in the UK in the 90/00's and worked at Domark / Eidos / Criterion (now I work in boring corporate IT) I learned my craft in my teens on Atari (and C64) So here's my 400 050 122634 088 (I can't make sense of the date format) Upgraded to 48K today using this excellent kit from Tynemouth Software https://www.tindie.com/products/tynemouthsw/atari-400-48k-ram-upgrade/ Edited February 14, 2019 by Tea Party 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/176199-calling-all-400s/page/9/#findComment-4219683 Share on other sites
Geister
Wow, that's a tiny board compared to the upgrade I put into my 400 so many years ago. Would that be the 8th week of 1978? ClausB
Strange, that's too early. Is there a code pressed into the case bottom plastic? Edit: on second look, it appears to be 083 which makes more sense. BillC
7 hours ago, mimo said: Not sure how to work out the date code. Fairly certain 10/15 refers to October 15. Given the serial number, and the fact that the 400 had ceased production by that date in 1983, it was probably produced in the 41st week of 1982. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/176199-calling-all-400s/page/9/#findComment-4319748 Share on other sites

jamm
My first computer was a 400. I didn't realize it didn't come with BASIC, so I just played Defender on it for months until I could finally afford the cartridge! I just got this one on eBay that needs a little TLC. Cosmetically good, but the case feels particularly brittle.
