Good luck with the first one; hopefully it doesn't turn into a cascade of trouble. I hope it doesn't either, the only thing I really worry about is that chip on the far right, and the pads it's soldered to, I'm not confident enough in my soldering skills to unsolder a chip with pads that aren't 100%. I mean It did spring to life and I did play a 2600 game on it for around 5 minutes (not going to apply power to it again until I get those caps and Vreg replaced). I am looking at installing a UAV especially if the RF doesn't clean up, the RF output is far worse than my 2600, and nowhere close to how clean the RF output of the 2nd 7800 is. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/177987-7800-serial-number-list/page/21/#findComment-5180411 Share on other sites

It honestly doesn't look too terrible, at least from what I can see in the photo. Give it a good cleaning with a soft toothbrush and white vinegar, possibly followed up by Deoxit or similar. That should eventually get the rust broken off enough that desoldering shouldn't be a total nightmare. On the plus side, it's a 74LS174, which are cheap and widely available. If pads do get lifted or it's just too shot to not replace, at least it'll be a good candidate for a socket and bodge wiring. Might even want to start with cutting it from the PCB and just replacing it outright to be safe. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/177987-7800-serial-number-list/page/21/#findComment-5180482 Share on other sites
Dissy614
Another for the list: A1 77 5922417 Original owner (childhood birthday gift) Only perm-mod is a pin header added to the expansion port. Astal4
I've got AT85034819 here with an S-video mod and a blue LED. I've repaired a previous owner's bad work. It's sadly not in great shape from previous owners. Got expansion port as expected. RF intact with the S-Video mod. Lord_of_Sipan
Mine is 72R4BR A1 78 5961655. System is not modded and works fine. I actually have a pretty clean RF output from this unit, honestly better than several other consoles I own with RF out. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/177987-7800-serial-number-list/page/21/#findComment-5188847 Share on other sites

I'll strongly recommend adding @-^CrossBow^-'s mount board to that UAV. Need to write mine up at some point, but it's a huge improvement over just the UAV by itself on the 7800. Atariboy2600
Serial Number: 72R4BR A3 84 5032174 Last year I got my third 7800 system I found in a plain box that also has that classic 7800 Super System box style but all white and it also works okay. It has no side PORT. +x=usr(1536)
Received A1 75 5862733 today. I've been on-again, off-again looking for a machine with the full expansion port (not just the sticker and/or hole), and this one turned out to have it. It wasn't visible in the seller's photos, but the serial number range that it falls into seemed promising, so I took the chance and it paid off. Overall, it's pretty clean. Needs a bit more than the wipedown I gave it to remove surface dust, but not much more than that. No case damage at all, and while there are a few signs of use on it none of them are anything that really detract from it - mostly just small scuffs. It was sold as not working, but powering on. Plugged it in, hit the switch, and... It's fully-working The RF output is really good for a 35-year-old system, and even the power switch feels like it's been used, but isn't worn out. The plan is for this one to be the kept-stock reference unit. The daily driver 7800 has already had a UAV installed along with a couple of other things, so it can keep on in that role. Kind of want to keep this one as-is because it's basically just a good, solid console. 2 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/177987-7800-serial-number-list/page/21/#findComment-5214909 Share on other sites
bigscarymike
I bought this one on eBay in 2012. If I'm reading this thread correctly, it's a really early one. Has expansion port. I'm about to have a composite mod installed. I also added a pic of the board for verification. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/177987-7800-serial-number-list/page/21/#findComment-5241941 Share on other sites
KrunchyTC
Scored this on ebay recently, in it's original box, both serial numbers match. Has the expansion port. It's in brand new condition, still has the peely on the face plate. The cartridge port has no issue accepting carts, much better than my newer model which is an A1 82 model. 3 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/177987-7800-serial-number-list/page/21/#findComment-5266332 Share on other sites

Agreed. Do we know which models were the ones that were locked up in a warehouse for 2 years? and which ones were manufactured after Atari sold the first batch? I saw a newspaper article stating they would be doing a test marketing in San Fran and in LA the key word is "would be" did it happen? i see no evidence of a test anything other than that ad from 1984 no games other than pole position because that game was in the system box so ya it got made. In my opinion no they all sat for 2 years. A system released with no games? i dont think so no launch games no system it cant sell with just the pack in game i wouldn't think. electronicsibley
@Albert, would it be possible to pin this thread? It's pretty evergreen as far as 7800 content goes.
