Dauber
"Super Pac-Man" was the first thing that came to my mind. (I do believe there was a version for the Commodore 64, though...) I'm surprised that of all the Pac-Man arcade games there were, all that came out for the VCS were Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, and then Jr. Pac-Man, the latter of which came out, when? 1987? It was one of Atari's last cartridges for the system...and you know what? It was one of their best, IMHO...along with Crystal Castles... As fun as Video Pinball is, I'm sure someone at Atari could have been creative enough to convert Baby Pac-Man! BTW -- I seem to remember seeing Frenzy on a list of rare VCS games...wish I had the link. :/
Megamaniac
I'm going to have to pick up a Jr. Pac Mac at some point. Sounds like it gets a favorable nod here on the site. Amazing how much better some of Atari's late cartridges were compared to early ones. Ms Pac Man over Pac Man, for example, much improved! Cootster
BTW -- I seem to remember seeing Frenzy on a list of rare VCS games...wish I had the link. :/ Maybe a prototype or some unrelated game with the same title . . . There is a Colecovision version, though . . . But it got lost in the shuffle at Atari . . .
SS
Surprised no one has said Frenzy yet. Remember this thread? http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=35475
mos6507
8: Death Race 2000: Atari gave porn people a license to create games, and they did make Crossbow, another Exidy game, so why not? Death Race 2000 is being ported by Glenn Saunders. It has been under development as "Death Derby" for a couple of years now. It looks great. But 2600 games are *hard* to write, and Glenn's a busy guy. I finished my Evil Project From Hell, Glenn...now it's your turn!!!! -Chris Maybe if someone writes a real graphical interactive debugger for CyberStella my limited time 2600 coding would be more productive. I've been pleading for this just about as long as I've had DD on my plate. Because I'm so used to interpreted code I am a real trial-and-error type of programmer and that doesn't mesh well with 2600 coding unless you have a way to single-step through code and monitor everything in a very cushy way. PCAtari's debugger is barely adequate and shows all the addresses with the wrong starting address.

mos6507
Personaly I like to see a 2600 version of Arkanoid. Hey atari made very good versions of Breakout and Super Breakout so Arkanoid is the next logical step. Also this one might be dificult but how about Bubble Bobble, Marble Maddnes, Paperboy, and Pang. Bubble Bobble is possible but would flicker like crazy.
Cootster
Toobin, huh? River Patrol hack, anybody? Seems obvious, since in a lot of ways, it's the same concept . . .
Albert
Ahh, great thread, must make a few comments. Frenzy is a wonderful arcade game, it's too bad it was never programmed for the 2600. This is an excellent candidate for someone to write from scratch someday. As for Galaga, I think it may be too complex to pull off well, but so many people would love to see it for the 2600 that I would not be surprised if someone tries their hand at it someday. For anyone who hasn't seen Glenn's great Death Derby development pages, you can find them here: Death Derby Development Page Now, as for Dance Dance Revolution, a few homebrew authors did get together and start such a project for the 2600, called Discotech, and you can even download a nice teaser ROM. Would be great to see it get a bit further along. Kickman was a title that was announced, but to my knowledge no prototypes have ever turned up. However, Mike Mika of Digital Eclipse started work on a version, which I know he still hopes to complete someday. ..Al
Cootster
Not only DiscoTech, but Eduardo's pad . . . I can think of quite a lot of games that would be fun on . . . Someone suggested Holey Moley in that thread . . . Good idea . . . Anybody know if the PC pads they make work with CyberStella? Nah, gotta have the real thing . . . But, yeah, ditch the baby . . . I vote for either Dancing Evil Otto or the kitten from Peek-a-Boo.
Cybergoth
Hi there! Did anyone like the Checkmate arcade from Midway? That is a lightcycle game supporting 4 players at once. I thought that might make an interesting 2600 port, in case one could find a way of properly supporting 4 players. Maybe with some special Joystick Y-cables, splitting horizontal from vertical directions. Or maybe missuse the paddles somehow... Greetings, Manuel
liveinabin
I'd have liked to see a (albeit simplified) version of Bombjack on the 2600. After all, it's just Circus Atari with platforms (kind of )
Adrian M
I wouldn't have minded seeing some early Namco classics on the 2600...specifically: 1. Bosconian 2. Mappyland 3. Rally X
joeybastard
I want a real Lunar Lander for the VCS not the one on Starship. I love the arcade one and it seems a simple enough game for the VCS. Rally X would be a great one to have too as well as Zookeeper.

Yes, Mappy is the game I intended to list! It's the game where you control the mouse in a house full of hostile cats. I think the NES version was called MappyLand...so I must have been thinking of that!

Megamaniac
Talk about an unusual find (since we're discussing cat and mouse games!)...Does anyone remember Crush Roller? Yea...that must be the Western name. It appears it was an Asian manufactured game first and then Williams probably bought the rights to it and came up with the name Make Trax. I don't really recall either name (Crush Roller, Make Trax) but I sure do remember the goofy game.

Me? I'm from that part of the world.. to me it was Crush Roller just as "Pacman" sounded strange to me instead of Puckman Thing that always pissed me off about Crush Roller.. was it was real easy to miss a tiny little "corner" and thus the board wouldn't be cleared even though it looked like you had painted over everything! .. And the game got way too difficult from the 2nd stage on
Megamaniac
That is funny...one little miss and no go. It sounds like you are drawn to the obscure arcade games as was I. Crazy Climber, Jack the Giant Killer, Bagman, Blueprint, Make Trax were just a few of the games I liked to play. I never expect to run into them again, though I'd love to. Inky
Hmmm... Methinks BAGMAN could be done justice on the 2600... Despite the fact that I HATED the game. Way too hard!
Megamaniac
After a bit more digging, to find the obscure...some more food for thought...now I am really getting esoteric: Alpine Ski Black Widow Crash! Crazy Balloon Cosmic Avenger Domino Man Eliminator Freeze Hardhat Leprechaun Lode Runner Mariner Monster Bash (I forgot about this one!) Pooyan Space Panic (Lode Runner!) Scramble Spiders Satan's Hollow Time Pilot
