Real Atari 8-Bit Impressions

Nice picture - but it does look like a case of 'colours for the sake of colours'. I'm not sure which of the reds/purples I'd use (I'd be more inclined to try with the pale red, beneath the yellow of the sun), but I reckon it'd look better if you just stuck with one of the colour ranges.

It's simply not finished, depending on editing bugs in G2F.

Today I found this video and was wondering.

Because that's what I remember, SID sounding for real.

The tune, played on the original thing has pitch problems with the "Guitar Sound".

Well, I know about the issues with my "Testtune", keeping always some correction pause at the start of an instrument and those emulation bugs, but it is even more stable than the C64 one.

Any explanation, why the C64 goes out of tune with the "Guitar Sound" there?

Poor conversion, I see no reason else why they couldn't have gotten the notes right.

It is playing during tape load but the only restriction there would be the play routine can't use big chunks of CPU at a time.

Just tried the disk version (although cracked), it doesn't even bopther to provide the music.

the fact it's tape loading shouldn't make any difference - the interrupt routine just kicks in at the start of a tape pulse, measures the length to determine the incoming bit and returns control to the main loop where everything else is done. You can do far more than that during a loader and still be okay. The only limitations are you can't be *too* accurate with your timings or use a ratser interrupt (you'd need to busy-wait on $D012 for the line you wanted, and allow for a bit of jitter).

Here's a few better examples:

Invade-a-load:

Better loading music by Jonathan Dunn:

Sanxion by Rob Hubbard:

Delta (Mix your own music whilst it loads):

And probably the most impressive would be Dragons lair - where technically the whole game is the loader.

it's just not a good conversion I think. To be honest I don't like the Amiga version that much either

Hitech 256 colour picture plus music with some sawtooth sounds making it even more "hitec" ;)

It's a funny day ;)

May I get this as an honor to POKEY or do I have more musically skills than I thought ;)

The tune seems "clear enough" to be realized as a copyrighted piece of music. Youtube has tagged it....

LOL

Most of these are very, very good. When I looked at the first one, I thought that those trees would look very nice in a first-person or modified-first-person golf game. The Atari 8-bit had Mean 18 and Leader Board. I never played them but from what I read and looked at in online videos, Leader Board was a little better, but it didn't have any trees.

It would be great to have a golf game with trees like that in post #1.

G2F is a powerful tool for pictures, but does it have any potential beyond single, static pictures?
