+therealbountybob
"Jittery paddles? After a couple of goes they should warm/charge up and work better but if not play 2 player and use the other one perhaps!" Wow! I never remember this happening before. I can't seem to get it to stop. I tried it on both my 130XE and my 800XL. It's a strange one, there's a lot of info the HSC's Paddles thread (pinned) but after much tinkering they just seem to work after a while so have a couple of dummy goes first (leaving them with the atari on doesn't make much difference). It might be something to do with some hardware charging but also might be (trbb's latest paddle theorem!) temperature related in terms of the metal expanding and making a better connection. The 130XE seems much worse than the 800XL. Ok so I got my paddles today. In all the years Ive been playing video games Ive never played using paddles so Ive got some work to do! That's great now the rest of you bag a set if you can (they are cheap!) and we can do a full blown paddles round later in the season perhaps

(large paddles) to 1539 1802: And (barely!) cleared the first screen of bricks on standard Breakout for 450: I prefer progressive, as it's much rarer to bounce off the top of the screen and shrink the paddle in half. +therealbountybob
No paddle No fun Nadral, Nadral, Nadral You can play Kaboom using the joystick (if you can buy some paddles they are quite cheap that would be good - try and get two sets and you can play Castle Crisis with 4 players on the XL/XE it's fantastic fun. Then we can have more paddles games rounds Looks like I won't be joining in on the more obscure titles here just yet. My flash programmer cart from Atarimax doesn't power up. Better post on the main A8 forum for that one I prefer progressive, as it's much rarer to bounce off the top of the screen and shrink the paddle in half. Seems a bit harsh the bat mega shrinks but it was a 1979 8(16?)K release! I seem to be better bouncing on the left wall than the right for some brain/eye reason I bet. It gets annoyingly hard when you have 1 brick left and have to make across the bat shots to get the ball to vary it's course. Hmmm... must've sent my latest updated scores (post #37) down the right side of the screen then... they're missing from the new tables. Seriously though, I have the exact same problem. Much better banking the ball off the left side and having trouble putting "English" on it with the bat. Still trying....

I didn't see the puny green; needs a splash of the bold paint OK Super Breakout discussion time folks - If you start a go it seems to bounce regularly for 4 then go off at a shallow angle for several, think this is an initial pattern? Tactics wise (on all but progressive) is it best to (A) clear the bottom and work up to avoid the small bat until the last possible minute OR (2) clear the two edges OR (3) one edge OR (Z) clear the middle and get the ball up there... or (F) foget about tactics and just hit the ball... I'm hedging towards (3). On progressive I think this is also a good strategy, I think even the small bat is worth the price... I think I figured out my best combination of paddles (set 4 #2) TVs & Ataris (though in reality I'm not unplugging anything but paddles) heck I should be programming my abbuc game, only 1 month to go :-o but it might be down to having ten goes of SuperB Prog in a row that I got a new pb. of 2,072 now I'm a PRO don't you know. Improved on Kaboom too Large 5,736 and Small 1,636, with an extra man every 1000pts I guess if you can survive a couple more waves than I, you get a man for every one you lose - the game drops down a speed when you explode now off for more midnight MAC/65 assembler! I usually break through the first rows of bricks by the time the 2nd set turns green. You want to keep it near the top as long as possible, small bat be damned!. This way you get more points per brick busted. The faster you get the "speed-up" on your later lives the better, as the bricks come down faster than you can bust them. I use either edge, but primarily the left. I also think that the first "off-hit" is part of a pattern. Cavity and Breakout are just luck and skill, but Doubles has more than meets the eye.
