Pitfall II

I haven't had time to play it again.

I'm too busy trying to make the bills, find ways to get to class(car broke) and all kinds of stuff.

I might have a bit of time later to try out Pitfall II again though.

It's just really hard with all kinds of things nagging at me. :D

heh don't worry.. the game's been around what.. 20 years? I don't think it's going anywhere. You got plenty of time.. even if you play it 5 years from now ;)

I was obsessed with Pitfall 2 as a kid. Best I ever did was 196,000. I think I must have missed a gold bar or something (I don't think I "died" once when I got that score).

Pitfall 2 is an amazing achievement for the 2600, although I find the pace to be a little slow for my tastes nowadays. It takes a bit too long to run anywhere. Still a great game, though.

Heh heh:

One for Kepone!  'Course he said that he's got things nagging at him, so he doesn't have time...so nag nag nag here :D

I played it for about 30 minutes earlier so I do have time. LOL.

I found it frustrating in some ways but it was actually quite fun. And yes, I did find some checkpoints! :D

I like it!

Has anyone ever considered making a video of the game from start to finish so that those of us who are not very good at the game can see the entire game?

Heh, no camcorder or anything here, all I have is a digital camera...with movies that are only 15 seconds in length, max...lotta movies I'd have to make there! :)

And as for the post after that...that is too cool!!! It really puts the scope on how big the game is, you forget, or don't really think about it, at times, until you see the whole thing like that.

Kepone, glad to hear your attitude's turned around on the game, yeah, it's a blast! Obviously from the emulation shot, I just played that for the first time in 10 years...and my trade for it will probably be on it's way in a day or two!! (An ex-friend lost it; butthead)

It's not a movie, but you can get a pretty good idea of what the game holds for you by looking at this map.

Ben

D**M I have never realized how huge the world on Pitfall II really was.

BTW, what system is that map made from? The characture sprites are all the same, but the enviromental graphics are way different from the 2600/5200 versions.

Yes, it was on a cartridge.

Ben

Somebody hand me a towel to wipe the drool off my mouth..

I'll be looking for a copy at Philly Classic. It's kinda funny actually,

I already own copies for ColecoVision, 2600, and 5200. I think

it may become the one game other than Pac-Man I try to get on

every platform that I have. :D

Good luck!  The C64 version has really nice

graphics, but the slick DPC sound is only on the 2600 version.  Also, don't

expect to see the "Adventurer's Level" on this one either.  :(

Ben

I actually thought the music in the 5200 one was decent, although 2600

(even with somewhat inferior graphics) is still my hands down favorite.

The sound on the C64 version is decent, and on par with (but definitely

different from) the 5200 rendition. I agree, the 2600 is my hands down

favorite, except for on those days I want to rip through the Adventurer's

Level. Then I have little choice but to drag out The Behemoth (still don't

have an 8-bit computers cart yet).

I wish I could comment on the Colecovision version, but I've never found

one of those either. If you have a spare CV PF2 cart, I'd be happy to

trade you my one spare PF2 C64 cart for it.

I wish I had a spare Ben, but I bought mine at the Expo last fall for

$15 complete in the box (it was even shrinkwrapped, but I couldn't

possibly resist opening the sucka up). Sorry. :D If it's any consolation

I got it from Tele-Games, and they may still have some.

Has anyone had any fun with this game?

It's nice looking and all but I hate it when I get killed and Harry goes all the way back to the beginning.

It would be nice to hack the game so that this doesn't happen. I'm sure this is why the cart is somewhat rare...perhaps others who bought it new found it frustrating whenever they got killed?

Are you kidding? I've had plenty of fun with this game. Probably more fun on this game than any other 2600 game. I never owned the game as a kid, but my babysitter did. I'll never forget that golden day when he brought it over and forgot to take it home with him. I played it non-stop!

I acquired it several years ago and played it over and over until I got a perfect score. 199,000 I think. Now a perfect score on the 5200 version, that would be a feat.... :ponder:

Ive got 7 versions of Pitfall II - Lost Caverns all for different systems

Atari 2600

Atari 5200

Commodore 64

Apple II

MSX

Spectrum

There even a Arcade version of Pitfall but its hardly identical or the same :|

But I only love the Atari 2600 version because this pushes it to the limits
