Destiny, anyone?

As for Bungie getting a pass from people, well they aren't getting a pass from me for their gaming history. I played Halo 1 years ago and that lasted a couple hours where I played a couple levels and walked away uninterested and have not returned to the series since. Not a fan of the game, not sure why... other than in didn't interest me...

That is interesting. I felt exactly the same way. I didn't get to sample Halo until the hype machine had already reached its peak, and I was expecting it to be the greatest game ever. I was very underwhelmed. So I definitely didn't buy this game based on the Bungie name, nor does it affect my opinion of it.

As a matter of fact, I can't remember the last time I bought a game on the strength of the developer's name alone. it was probably Infocom!

I played the Beta of the game some and wasn't overwhelmed with excitement. There were some very, very nice things about the game but yet it had a very, very familiar feel to it.

I watched my son play the full game via Twitch on the PS4 for over an hour and he was really enjoying it. Some of his friends joined him and they were all were having a blast. I was interested in the game but didn't want to spend $60 on it but when I found the game used at a flea market over the weekend for $35, I bought it.

I've only got a couple hours in and am a Lvl 5 Hunter. A couple of things I've noticed in the short amount of game time I've put in:

1) While running around doing a story quest or bounty, I would see caves along the way. Ducked into a couple to look for chests or dead ghosts and seemed every one of them had a high level enemy inside (twice they had ?? on them for a level while a couple others were in the 20's) who would kill me before I realized they were in there. Because of this, I am reluctant to explore very much.

2) I swear I've done a lot of the same quests in Borderlands 1 & 2, so much of what I'm doing in Destiny seems very repetitious to me.

3) I like the Events and have taken part in 3 or 4 of them so far.

4) Tired of seeing people dancing all the time.

5) Two things about the game I really don't like at all are: the timer countdown after beating a boss.... why can't I explore, gather things and search for a possible chest and then leave when I'm ready? And the other thing is the enemies respawn waaaaaay to quickly.

Overall, the game is fun and I'm enjoying it. But I can't shake the feeling that this game is going to turn into just another grinding - farming extravaganza when you get near Lvl 20.

I'm level 21 and to me, now, it kind of has. It's either the same strikes over and over or PVP until it expands content a bit.

So wait, when Bungie says Destiny become a different game after level 20....

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/destiny-is-a-different-game-after-20-hours-bungie-/1100-6422312/

They mean it becomes an even more boring and repetitious game than a lot of people are already complaining about?

Nice!

That sucks...which means my personal rating I mentioned earlier could drop my average score of 8 to a 7 or 6.

They got stuff brewing for the future but my problem is other games will take hold of me.

Hopefully Bioware doesn't screw this one up.

I just made it to 15 and am excited to play with my new subclass. The progression has been fun so far, but from everything I've seen and read I'm probably going to lose interest fast when I hit 20. I have neither the patience nor desire for grinding.

And for any of you who haven't hit 15 yet, I picked up a great tip the other day. Complete a few bounties and don't turn them in until you hit 15 and unlock your new subclass. Then switch to that subclass and turn in your bounties. That will give you a quick dose of XP to unlock the grenade and movement skills in your new subclass so you don't feel like you're starting over.

This is how I feel when I play multiplayer:

http://youtu.be/-ui9TwNrNEw?t=30s

Granted I suck at competitive FPS games anyway, but this game feels more unbalanced than any I've every played. The weapons may be balanced but I don't think skills and armor are. Someone who has maxed out their subclass will wipe the floor every time with someone who has just unlocked theirs.

And everyone has learned that most of the weapons in PVP are useless so everyone runs around with the shotgun and assault rifle now.

Anyone taking part in the Events? I've done a couple of them each day I've played and they are always the same thing: defend something from enemy hordes for 2 or 3 minutes. Has anyone else seen a different type of Event?

I'm at Lvl 12 now and have slowed down on the amount of time I'm playing as I'm just not that blown away with the game. I find the Bounties very boring as they are repetitious: kill so many of these, collect so many of these, use this skill 20 times. And the first raid requires you to be Lvl 26 and I'm not sure I want to play the game that long. I have fun at times with a fire team, but overall I'm just not that excited.

Actually, I'm much more excited about the upcoming Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel than I am about Destiny.

I've played a "kill the enemy target" along with the many defend X stuff.

Here's some new ones coming:

http://www.bungie.net/7_Destiny-Events-Starting-0919/en/News/News?aid=12153

I'm not looking forward to Borderlands....the second Borderlands burned me out so I wont be getting the pre-sequel for a while. I feel the same with Destiny, a bit of a burnout and I just started (at level 5). I think the beta burned me out cause when I started playing I was just not in the mood. I wish I could have kept my old character from the beta instead of starting all over with nothing different happening. I still enjoy it though.

The problem with loot games are do mission, get loot, do mission get loot and it never stops. The one thing about Destiny though is its like an MMO...it will constantly evolve so I'll always keep tabs on it even when I'm "done" playing it. I'm not making it too much of a priority though so I wonder when I'll ever hit level 20! lol

Yeah, I'm pretty much completely burnt out on Borderlands 2. I've reached a point, along with my son's and some friends, that we need better weapons to finish Ultimate Vault Hunter mode and after farming bosses for hours and hours without getting significant drops, I've had enough. The keys that Gearbox keeps giving out on a regular basis for the loot chest are useless to us as we're Lvl 54 and up and the weapons in the loot chest are always Lvl 50.

I'm excited for the Pre-Sequel, though, because its new characters, new locations, new enemies, new weapons, new skill trees, and new story. Maybe I'll burn out on it quickly due to the amount of playing time I've put into BL and BL2, but right now its a must-buy for me on launch day.

Thanks for the info on Destiny. I played a little bit today and once again the Event was a protect the object goal. BAH!

Oh WTF

I'm TRYING to avoid that game on launch day. Yes, I am burnt out.....yes, I am..........I think. :P

I had a protect the object last night too, if a level 21 player didn't show up at the last minute I would have failed. Oh well, Destiny can also be quite frustrating.

The public events are a great idea, and it's fun teaming up with lots of folks to take down something big. I'm just looking forward to more variety in them.

I'm up to level 17 (just a few ticks from 18) now. I'm still enjoying it, but based on what I've read I doubt I'll ever make it to 26 to experience the raid. I have neither the time nor patience for the grinding it would take to get there. But that has always been the case for me with MMOs and I've still been able to enjoy them.

I'm at a tough place with my warlock now because I'm using the sunsinger subclass, and until you level that up a bit it is a major step backward from the power of the void walker. I tried the moon strike last night with two other level 17s, and we could not beat the final boss. That's pretty disappointing considering we were all several levels above the recommendation. I need to level up and get more sunsinger abilities before I try that again.

Nice guide to upgrading legendary gear:

http://tay.kotaku.com/a-guide-to-obtaining-and-upgrading-legendary-gear-in-de-1636451289

I'm catching up, I'm at level 10 from level 3 within a week. Been doing bounties and public events whenever I can (boosts your leveling very fast).

Preferred weapons?

Mine is:

HandCannon

Sniper\Fusion rifle

Machinegun (although a rocket launcher is cool for PVP)

I'm wearing tons of strength based armor to lower the cooldown of the knife.

The double-controlled jump ability has gotten me out of some tight spots where I think I would have been killed had I stuck to my Warlock. Still I think the Warlock is much improved over the beta when I played it and I think they nerfed the Hunter a little bit more on the last patch.

Maybe a little off-topic, but in talking about MMO's, the best time I ever had playing one was the original Everquest and its first expansions.

Plenty of different races & classes to try; a HUGE world to explore that was constantly added to (after playing for approx. 18mos I still hadn't seen everything there was to see within the game); guilds to join so that you could go on raids; working on improving your stat's and skills so that your spells didn't "fizz" and your sword hit for maximum damage, and so much more.

And before they dumbed the game down so casual players were as powerful as dedicated players, classes and skills meant you always had something to do besides grinding and farming. I had both a druid and wizard and many a night I spent just transporting people throughout the game world in order to raise funds for other things. Many I night I spent working on my blacksmith skills or creating potions or cooking stat enhancing food or other things. Other nights my guildmates and I would just sit around shooting the breeze and having a good time, or run around the game just buffing other players for the hell of it.

I never grew bored with Everquest but only stopped playing because I realized I was addicted to it, spending far too much time playing it rather than dealing with real life. So in that respect, I'm glad that Destiny, as an MMO, hasn't grabbed my attention very much.

I have a friend who was an Everquest fiend. He finally stopped a few years ago after a decade of playing that game. Amazing.

I'm sure there are World of Warcraft players out there who still play it since launch.

Yeah Destiny takes a little bit of everything and kind of bunches it together and its only a little of everything which I think most people are disappointed with. Some reason I cant stop playing it though at least right now.

Let's see what happens when you hit level 20+... :)

Maybe that's a good thing. I need to get away from this madness because I can see crafting and other things (Raids) taking up wayyy too much of my time post level 20. Hence where the MMO part heavily sets in. Thats what hooks the higher level players and I certainly don't have time for a 10 hour Raid.

I haven't found a favorite yet. I think I've tried all the primary types and I've not found any to be particularly better than others yet, so I basically use whatever weapons has the highest attack number. I started out using mostly pulse rifle, but the post-beta nerf is really evident. I used hand cannon for a while and that has its charm. Right now I'm using a scout rifle because not only is it the highest attack rating in my inventory but I have a reload speed bonus for it on my gloves.

The sniper rifle is good fun but I never have enough ammo for it.

In PVP I use auto rifle (like everyone else).

Followed your link and went online to try it out. Myself and two others worked the cave for an hour. In that time, I went from Lvl 14 to Lvl 18 and got several good items... nothing legendary (which I heard don't drop for you until Lvl 20) but some good guns and armor.

Also, I'm not sure what the name of it was... strike, event, whatever..... but the sky went dark, a message came up onscreen that "the enemy is massing" (or something like that), and a huge wave of enemy after enemy came pouring out of everywhere non-stop. It lasted about 3min and was a blast of fun. Several of my items of armor and weapons were able to be upgraded after this "event" was over.

I love little focusing events like this in games. Somewhat organic experience.

I have a level 25 Hunter so far, Gunslinger class. I'm a big Halo and Phantasy Star fan, and like some people have said, it is like Halo meets PSO. I played fairly religiously since launch, but had to take a break and haven't played in the last several days, but about to jump back in tonight.

The weakest part of the game for me is the story. It is like Bungie made this awesome universe with great ser pieces, but then just dropped the ball when it came time to flesh out the story. It is kinda baffling, since Marthon and Halo had good story lines. I would give the story a 4 out of 10.

Bungie also needs to flesh out the tower more and maybe add a casino and maybe let each player have their own apartment or something.

I'm fully invested into Destiny right now and I'm enjoying myself, but the MMO portion isn't as engaging and fleshed out as PSO/PSU action-mmorpg's, hell, it isn't even as fleshed out as Phantasy Star Portable and about on the same level as Phantasy Star Zero. The competitive FPS multiplayer isn't as good as the Halo series either and with Halo:MCC on the horizon, that may pull me away from Destiny. We'll see where Bungie takes Destiny to see if it has legs for the long haul.

BTW, some of you have said you don't enjoy competitive multiplayer FPS games. Well, you might as well trade in Destiny now, because if you want a hug level character, you are go III g to have to play hours and hours of Crucible. If yo uh enjoy competitive FPS tough, then you won't mind.

I think the key word there is "competitive." I enjoy competitive multiplayer FPS games (Battlefield 1942 is probably my favorite PC game of all time), but the crucible in Destiny is not exactly competitive. Despite supposed weapon balancing, there is very little balance to it. A level 25 with all their subclass skills and weapon upgrades can mop the floor with lower level players. I still have fun with some match types, but after a while getting one-shot killed over and over gets tiring.

I reached level 20 last night, and I feel like I'm close to being done with the game. I want to finish the story and do the rest of the strikes, but that's about it. I've never been a grinder, so playing casually it would take me months to get high enough to be able to participate in any of the high level content.

And what frustrates me is that all the new content so far is strictly for the hardcore max level folks. I'm glad they are adding new stuff. I just wish I could participate in it.
