+Firedawg
I think 3D printers are ideal for prototyping, not for mass production runs. For small in-house electronic projects I think it would be great.
BillC
I have thought about it. The sad fact of consumer 3d printing is that it is not a volume activity. Depending on the complexity and size of the item and the capabilities of the printer it can take 30min to hours for 1 single item. Time is money and at this stage the filiament is still somewhat expensive too. I don't know if I could come up with something that would be cheap enough for most people to buy. I can definitely try to design a bezel that would incorporate the led/switch panel. I'll be back with more info later. Maybe just a small piece that could be attached to the original bezel then? marcokitt2000
Hello I have yesterday received the mega speed and have build in my 1050 works great. Only i have a old 1050 with some modifications q6, q7,q8 they where with wires placed on the headsink, all other of my 1050 have on the mainbord near the heatsink etc but works great. I can say it's simpel to use. Maybe i will buy a 2nd unit. All special thanks to the mega speedy team. Greetings from Marco
guus.assmann
Hello All, Unfortunatelly, there's still a problem. The displays have not been delivered yet and Ionly have half of the rotary-encoders. I did manage to produce a couple of complete units. Maybe I'll bring those to ABBUC in Germany. (I live in the Netherlands) This will however mean a 260 km trip and some time. And if I do this, I'll have to go there twice. choices-choices.... atari8warez
China deliveries are unpredictable at best. I for one, have found a very reliable supplier, for at least the PCBs. ITead Studios do a very fine job of fabricating and delivering on time at a very good price, just wanted to share the info.
guus.assmann
Hello atari8warez, The PCB's did come from iTead and that was just fine. They've done a good enough job and I can reccomend them. They made some small errors, but these were easilly remidied. (Wrong resistor values on 3 locations) One problem is the production of Knitter, a good German company. I use their rotary encoders. I could have gotten them faster and with a round axle. But then I need to buy 1000 units. (At about 3,30 Euro a piece) 2nd problem is the displays. These are produced in the USA, or at least by a USA company. I've bought these parts and payed for them with Distrelec. This is a good Swedish company. But they keep posponing the delivery, because their suppliers don't deliver. For time and money reasons, I choose to do some work myself. The prices have worked out, the time just has not. I could buy different displays, at a higher price. But then I get stuck with 200 displays and I'm not a company and have no intentions to use those diaplays. Selling them is also not an option, the price would not be right. So the story differs a bit with your assumptions I guess. BR/ Guus
atari8warez
Thanks for the great detail, so my guess about chinese deliveries being late was wrong and there's more to the story. As for ITEAD, I've never got them to do my assemblies (I do it myself), just the PCBs, that's probably why I've never had any issues with the boards. I was in fact considering to get the assemblies done by them but never looked into the details of the procedure.

guus.assmann
Hello All, The Mega Speedy is ready to be delivered. Yesterday, the displays and encoders finally arrived. So today, I've delivered 99 pieces to Wolfgang in Germany. He will accept payment and do the shipment. Contact him here: Wolfgang@abbuc.de Give your name, full postage address and payment method. Preffered is a bank transfer, Paypal will cost 1 Euro 50 extra. Prices as before in this Forrum. 50 Euro for the complete unit. 5 Euro extra if you're not an ABBUC member. (Please consider to become a member ) Shipment in Germany is 4 Euro 50. Shipment to the rest of Europe or World, 6 Euro, but please ask in advance to be sure. For now, only 1 unit per buyer, untill all questions on the list that I compiled from this forum are complete. Then the remaining units will be offered. Also, I asked for a second batch of 50 units to be produced. And ABBUC is willing to fund this again. The price is expected to be the same, but cannot be guaranteed yet. I need to procure the processors and ram-chips at a good price. So please also state if you want more than one unit. The first buyer to pay (By bank transfer) will get a 1 Euro discount from me. guus.assmann
Hello All, Apparently, there's been quite some mails to Wolfgang. So that's good to hear. Please pay attention while opening the package. The knob for the rotary-encoder is loose in the package. And the connector stips are taped to the bottom of the PCB. Don't loose those parts or your construction kit will be incomplete. BR/ Guus Assmann

guus.assmann
Hello All, Just a little while ago, Wolfgang has written to me that 27 Mega-Speedy's are on their way to buyers. That's quite a a lot for just one day, considering that they're also payed for. So yes, he's very bussy with this. For more installation instruktions, please look here: http://www.realdos.net And of course some more information on the internal workings of the programmable logic can be found at the site of Hias. If there's any questions, just ask. And yes, it's awesome to use. Specially if you have so many different enhancements with various fine qualities in one 1050 unit. I would have liked to improve on the display units mounting possibillities, but using a smaller display would have meant using an SMD display. No display is also an option. Hias has made a selection and setting program that makes the display obsolete.... guus.assmann
Hello djmat56, Due to the current policy of 1 per buyer, it should be no problem to get one now. Contact Wolfgang about this. BR/ Guus

guus.assmann
Hello All, Wolfgang wrote that yesterday, 12 units went to USA, Switzerland and Poland and 15 to buyers in Germany. That's a bit over half the units gone in total. Again very fast. There's been (2 so far) remarks about no reply to mail. In such case, write to: atari@unitybox.de There may be a spam filter stopping some mails. BR/ Guus
