Andromeda Stardust
The only reason I ever bought a Sega console was because of Sonic. I'm glad I did, there were tons of great games to be found afterward, but sonic did get me to test those waters. This. I finally bought a Genesis in 2011 because I wanted my Sonic fix. My first non-Nintendo console, definitely not my last. Now it's my go to system for many 16-bit titles simply because oftentimes essentially the games are so much cheaper than SNES. Super Street Fighter II picked it up at Game-X-Change for 3.95. For SNES it would have cost me like $20. AtariLeaf
A couple others that I bought for one game but I expanded the library slightly afterwards: PS3 - originally for Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit N64 - originally for Robotron
BydoEmpire
Nope. There were sometimes games tthat pushed me over the edge to buy (Panzer Dragoon Orta on Xbox for example), but it really wasn't just that game. I wouldn't have done it if there weren't other titles, and the prospect of other titles I wanted. There's always some kind of critical mass of games that made me splurge on a console. +wood_jl
Atari 2600 - for Adventure. NES - for Super Mario Bros. Super Nintendo - for Donkey Kong Country. Playstation - for Need For Speed and Toshinden (first PS, first NFS) Saturn - for Sega Rally and VF2 N64 - for Super Mario 64 Dreamcast - Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Sega Rally 2 PS2 - Gran Turismo 3 Gamecube - Super Mario Sunshine Xbox - Forza and MechAssault After those, I slowed down and waited until there were piles of good games on the newer consoles, so can't really say. Andromeda Stardust
I think whenever a new console that comes out, unless you bought it at launch, there's some must have game that finally convinces the purchase. I bought my Wii-U at launch but for many that game was Mario Kart 8. Many more will pick up in anticipation of Smash Bros. Vintage or new, I don't think it matters that one game convinces you to buy it. Once you've bought the console, it unlocks the entire library. Reaperman
Of course. Generally every system I buy I do so with a specific game in mind, or I probably wouldn't buy it. One that really stands out is Tempest 3000 on the Nuon. Mostly it stands out because I usually find lots of other games to enjoy besides the 'killer app,' but not so much with Nuon. I guess Merlin Racing was good too, but outside of that, I sure didn't find any other fun. I'd think a more interesting topic would be the systems we've bought knowing full well that they wouldn't provide any real entertainment value. I can name a few in my collection. ledzep
Xbox for Steel Battalion. Or the other way around, I'm not sure. I haven't gotten an Xbox yet, but when I do it will be solely for Steel Battalion. I still miss going to Virtual World in Pasadena to play Battletech and Steel Battalion would certainly come close (no pod to sit in) to recreating that vibe with its gigantic dedicated controller system. I bought the Atari 800 back in the day because I wanted a computer but what tipped the scales past the Apple ][ was Star Raiders. Played that game a lot. For a while it was the only game I owned for it.

AtariLeaf
I forgot, ever since I did my most recent purge, I now only have one Sega Master Game - Rampage.
Nebulon
SEGA Genesis - Mortal Kombat. For the longest time, that was the only game I had for that machine.

dashv
Getting a Phillips CDI to play Burn:Cycle. Almost got an Atari Jaguar just for Aliens VS Predator. Originally got a game cube just for Resident Evil 0. Got my wife a PS 2 just for Kingdom Hearts. Ended up getting more enjoyment out of the Game Cube and PS2 when other games came out that we wanted. Not expecting Burn:Cycle to blow me away. But I never owned/played any of the FMV games of that era. So I want something. I am not expecting to get any other games for the CDI. Probably never getting a Jaguar because I just lost interest. Edited November 1, 2014 by dashv
CatPix
Pretty much any Nintendo Console (excluding Virtual Boy) because of Mario. Get it for Wario then Wario Land on the VB is a very solid platformer. Either it should be ported back to GBA, or get the VB for it, but in both cases, it's a very solid, entertaining and well made platformer. Yannow. Nintendo. roland p
I got a gamecube for Zelda Windwaker. I never played Zelda games, but the game looked so nice so bought it.
AtariLeaf
Almost got an Atari Jaguar just for Aliens VS Predator. I was toying with the idea of getting a Jag just for Tempest but the price/desire ratio wasn't there.

Yeah Tempest tempted me too but then someone pointed out there is an excellent clone (that I can't remember the name of) for the (can't remember the console). Getting older is a bitch. The mind really is the first thing to go.
bomberpunk
I bought a Wonderswan for Klonoa Moonlight Musuem, but actually bought two other titles (Mr. Driller and Megaman & Bass) first while waiting for another Moonlight Museum to pop up on ePay. I played a few minutes of Wario Land VB when I was in high school. The game seemed cool, but the console and dem red lights, not so much. I secretly wished Nintendo could have ported over select VB classics to 3DS Virtual Console. Optionally display them in red or grayscale. It only took them like 15 years to perfect the 3D tech and ready it for the consumer. Sadly, I doubt it will happen since Nintendo would rather bury the VB and all it's library than acknowledge it's existence.
Emehr
I bought a PSP for Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles. I usually have a rule that I need 5 games to justify a system purchase but I broke it with this. It was worth it. I also broke it for the 3DS, for which I only have two games (Super Mario 3D Land and Zelda Link Between Worlds).

dashv
PS1 - Tempest X3? :D :D No the name wasn't that obvious. It was a spiritual successor to Tempest made by an indie company. That said, I didn't know about this one either. Looks like the Jag is permanently off my wishlist.
Andromeda Stardust
PS1 - Tempest X3? :D :D I got that one. It is playable on the PS3. I bought a Best AV 7800 to play the PMP Collection. Do not regret. Edited November 2, 2014 by stardust4ever
retrorussell
Bought the Sega CD for ROAD AVENGER, though I was happy with the pack-in game SEWER SHARK and, shortly after that, NIGHT TRAP before I finally got Road Avenger.
