Here are my time for this past week (May 30th through June 5th)...

Commodore 64:

Park Patrol - 52 min.

Facebook (non-eligible):

Track Racing - 4 min.

I did manage to sneak in some gaming time this week... after watching an episode of Baywatch on an old VHS tape, I played a session of "Park Patrol" on the C-64 where you also have to save swimmers from drowning (among other things). At the 4th game, I managed to clear Level 6 after which the game doesn't get any harder anymore.

Then I played some Track Racing, but the game is still as chaotic as it was when I last played it (it still shows "Development Build").

Apart from that, I've improved my TI-99 speech converter. It now seems to work better than QBox does... it does a good job detecting pitch and voiced/unvoiced frames, and it also works much faster than before since I'm not calling my self-written routine for getting the coefficients anymore. After studying some LPC source code on the net, I realized that the algorithm which in my program was only used to detect the energy already produces the correct coefficients, I just didn't use them.

For all who worried about my well-being... thank you. Actually the reason I gave for stopping gaming wasn't the only one... other reasons are that I couldn't think of any game I'd like to play, and summer is just around the corner, so I'll probably go swimming again, and before that I'd like to complete the tasks I'Ve been procrastinating for so long. So it could well be that gaming now stops again for some more weeks... we'll see.

Less diversity this week.

Coleco

Jumpman Jr 322

SMS

Golvellius 183

I got through all the levels in Jumpman, but I've continued playing without save states to see if I can do it.

Golvellius is actually quite accessible, so I'll likely continue with that.

My times for the week:

NES:
Digger T. Rock: Legend of the Lost City - 2 min.
Tennis - 8 min.
Game Boy:
Shisenshou: Match Mania - 66 min.
SNES:
Air Cavalry - 494 min.
Incredible Crash Dummies - 118 min.
International Tour Tennis - 25 min.
Out of This World - 63 min.
Pac-Attack - 141 min.
Time Slip - 7 min.
Whizz - 6 min.
Beat Air Cavalry (all three campaigns), Incredible Crash Dummies, and Out of This World this week. I know OOTW very well and ICD was familiar from a playthrough of the Genesis version in 2013, but Air Cavalry was quite challenging.
Other than that, I beat up to Level 40 in Shisenshou and Level 50 in Pac-Attack; lost three matches in two tennis games; and futzed around in a few other games to relatively little effect.

2600:

E.T. - 21 minutes

Warlords - 20 minutes

5200:

Gremlins - 20 minutes

Star Raiders - 20 minutes

Dreamcast:

Unreal Tournament - 210 minutes

MSX2:

Snatcher - 100 minutes

Pretty funky week, but it was fun. I started off with the stuff in the last post (which I forgot, good thing I posted it...) which was pretty OK. I started off the week with some 5200 stuff - I don't actually have a 5200 so I had to play it through emulation, but I thought it was pretty OK. Gremlins was a fairly simple game to get a hold of, simple gameplay and easy enough. Star Raiders I do have a cart of (dunno how), and it just felt like a better version of what was on the 2600 - I liked it a good bit. I grabbed Unreal Tournament on Dreamcast, and let me say, that is a fairly nice port. Yeah it has some slowdown and all that, but the gameplay is intact - the only complaint I have is that up on the d-pad is the secondary attack, and that since you only have one stick you have to use the buttons for strafing and looking up/down. I had some friends over and they wanted to mess around with the 2600, so a nice game of 4-player Warlords happened - even if it does looks real simple, it's still enjoyable. Also, since they saw my ET cart sitting around a few people asked "how crappy" the game is so I ran through it a few times - I like the game a little bit. Finally, I decided to mess around with my MSX, and I found that someone had made an english patch, so I put it on four 3.5" floppies and I've been messing with it - it is a good bit of fun, although it's quite simple with lots of loading times.

So yeah, just a bunch of random stuff. I may have more (emulated) times for next week, as I'm working on using my Raspberry Pi as a media server and I found that RetroPie has KODI, so I'm messing with RetroPie a good bit. Also, Game.com will be on for next week, so boy, I really can't wait to have to play with that thing.... oh well.

Not much in the way of tracker eligible playtime from my household this week, but it was still a great week for annihilating untold hordes of zombies once again! :D

iJEU4M9.jpg

Ineligible

Animal Crossing: Wild World (Nintendo DS) - 129 minutes

The House of the Dead: Overkill (Nintendo Wii) - 85 minutes

The Pinball Arcade (Android) - 11 minutes

Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil (Nintendo Wii) - 226 minutes

Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil Zero (Nintendo Wii) - 184 minutes

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (Nintendo Wii) - 869 minutes

Touch the Dead (Nintendo DS) - 101 minutes

PC-DOS

Final Doom - 93 minutes

Total Play Time This Week

1,698 minutes (28 hours 18 minutes) [93 minutes eligible]

Individual System Play Times This Week

Nintendo Wii: 1,364 minutes

Nintendo DS: 230 minutes

PC-DOS: 93 minutes

Android: 11 minutes

Regardless of what system I'm doing it on, for my tastes there are few finer video gaming experiences that can be had than blowing the heads off zombies and other nightmarish creatures with a well made plastic shotgun. Bearing that fact in mind, it's probably no surprise that once I received my CTA Sure Shot shotgun conversion shell for the Wii remote and nunchuck in the mail this week I promptly spent all my free time putting it to good use. I first tried out this very solid feeling and well designed shotgun accessory with House of the Dead: Overkill, and after just a few levels with it I quickly noticed that I was more than doubling my score from when I used the more well known Nyko Perfect Shot pistol shell for the Wii remote. Just having that stock to brace against my shoulder or side vastly increased the stability of my aiming, and after opening up the Sure Shot and lubricating all the moving parts with a little white lithium grease (since it came from the factory with zero lubrication of any kind inside it) the buttons were all smooth as silk.

From there I spent most of the rest of the week playing Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles with my new boomstick, until I had beaten every stage on hard and unlocked almost everything there was to unlock. I say "almost" because I never managed to get an "S" ranking in every stage on hard, which is needed to unlock unlimited ammo for the weapon of your choice, but I did unlock everything else and I had a ton of fun doing it! The only other noteworthy events from the past week in gaming for me was that I finally managed to beat Touch the Dead for the DS on Furious (Hard) mode and I did get in a few more levels in the TNT chapter of Final Doom last night to make sure I'd have at least some eligible play time for the week.

As far as the misses' week goes, it was all Resident Evil all the time for her! After finishing the remake of the original Resident Evil with Chris on Hard mode she went on to start Resident Evil Zero and has been playing that one all week since. It's been a good half a decade or so since I played RE 0 and at this point the only things I really remember about it (aside from what Umbrella Chronicles reminded me of) is that the game is absurdly difficult even on normal mode and that ammo is scarcer than water in the Kalahari Desert, so I think my better half might have her work cut out for her with this one. As far as next week goes, I think it's pretty safe to expect that my wife will be continuing to play through Resident Evil Zero and I'm really hoping to spend some more time exploring the Sega Master System library. There are so many awesome SMS games that I'd like to play but lately I seem to be getting caught up with lots of long and involved Wii games instead, so I think next week it'll be time to set the newer games aside for a bit and delve into some 8-bit classics. Maybe I'll give the Game Boy Color some attention too while I'm at it. :)

Here's the summary for Week 23, running from May 30 - June 5. We logged 3935 minutes of eligible play, playing 74 games on a total of 21 systems.

7. Dreamcast (210)

8. PC (Windows 95/98) (148)

9. Atari Jaguar (100)

9. MSX2 (100)

The SNES came close a week ago, but in Week 23 it takes the crown, edging out the Atari 2600 thanks largely to this week's #1 game, the helicopter sim Air Cavalry.

Kaboom does claim the #1 spot on the pre-NES charts -- though it just barely holds off Jumpman Jr. on the ColecoVision, which ends up at #2 on the pre-NES charts and at #3 on the other two.

Well, so far my plan to play more Sega Master System games this week isn't off to a very good start. Everything was going just fine until I received Dead Space: Extraction for the Wii in the mail Monday afternoon, and since then I have spent every minute of my gaming time this week metaphorically crapping my pants. I've played a lot of horror themed on-rails shooters (especially lately) but this one just takes the genre to a whole new level, and I don't think any game has ever scared the living daylights out of me quite like this one. The original Silent Hill came close, but Dead Space: Extraction is just... horrific.

The story is phenomenal too, which is something that you don't generally see in on-rails shooters, and I think that's what's really kept me playing it over the last few days when I originally intended to just test it out for a few minutes to make sure the disc worked properly. If you happen to own a Wii then I think this game is the reason to pick up a Wii Zapper. Most light gun games on the Wii seem to be best played with either a Nyko Perfect Shot or CTA Sure Shot gun conversion shell, but for Dead Space: Extraction (and Link's Crossbow Training) the official Wii Zapper is definitely the way to go.

This week was mostly painful and a joke, but I don't even care.

Amiga:

Frontier: Elite II - 210 minutes

Game.com:

Tiger Casino - 62 minutes

NES:

Color A Dinosaur - 800 minutes

PC (DOS):

Frontier: First Encounters - 100 minutes

ZX Spectrum:

Elite - 62 minutes

Got to start off by getting this out of the way. My thoughts on the one Game.com game I put time into:

Ehhhh...nope.

Alright that's done. I'll get through the Wheel of Fortune games next week, I'm doubting that I'll enjoy 'em, and then hopefully the arcade compilation is even good - I'm also doubting that game.

So, if you read the times, you're probably wondering "Why Color A Dinosaur again?" So, your answer is that I got a bet from a friend to sit there for at least twelve hours doing nothing but Color A Dinosaur (or at least starting at it) and that was just painful, please dear god don't get that game near me for a month and I'll be happy. I swear, I'm happy to be on summer vacation and it was an off-day, I wasn't called in to go to work or any of that, but that was just terrible.

Now for the pretty good stuff - I really felt like doing something with space, and I remembered that Elite is a good game series. I plugged in the ZX Spectrum, found my tape for the original, and played it - It's still a fun game, but I wish I had something other than that membrane keyboard to use. The Amiga got use, as I have Frontier on the Amiga, and dang I forgot how much fun that game is. No real plot, but the ability to fly around and do whatever - I love it. I played a modernized PC game - Pioneer - that started off as almost a redo of Frontier, and holy crap that's a ton of fun too. I also put time into FFE, the third game, and it's pretty fun stuff too - it actually has textured surfaces! Still a good game, and I was happy with it. Because of all this, I dumped $60 on the newest Elite which is gonna take a while to download, 15.4GB and my internet can do like 400KB/s at best at home.

So yeah, painful at first but the rest of the week was fun - please don't give me Color A Dinosaur for a bit and I'll be happy.

*Edit - FFE is a DOS game, whoops

Atari 2600

Beany Bopper: 15 min

Fishing Derby: 20 min

PC (DOS)

Silent Hunter: 85 min

Played Fishing Derby for the HSC (Sports Weeks, so there's more to come next week if I find the time). I also briefly messed with Beany Bopper (the Taiwan clone of the 20th Century Fox game), which is not terrible, but not brilliant either.

February 1944 in Silent Hunter. We're slowly getting there.

Intellivision:

BurgerTime - 6 min.

Despite being a week with only four workdays (National day off on Monday), I barely found any time/energy at all to play games. If it wasn't for the fact a friend of mine had a barbeque party on Saturday and involved a very short BurgerTime competition, I would've registered a zero. My score on BurgerTime on one game was 6350 pts, not that impressive but better than both of my friends who bothered and grunted about the disc controller possibly being the worst video game controller ever conceived.

Here are my times for this past week:

Atari 800:

Shamus Case II - 107 min. in 5 sessions

Commodore 64:

Shamus Case II - 164 min. in 3 sessions

VIC-20:

Sword of Fargoal - 25 min.

This week, contrary to my initial planning, I did manage to sneak in some playing time again. First I played "Sword of Fargoal" on the VIC-20, but I kept dying... somehow I didn't manage to find the key you use to climb stairs.

Then I replayed "Shamus Case II" on the C-64, also drawing a map of the game since the maps available online are somewhat incomplete. Eventually I switched to the Atari 8-bit version of the game, which is the original, and it's noticeably better, although the difference is not as big as with the original Shamus. Still it feels I'm more in control of the game on the Atari 8-bit, and it's also a bit more colorful. The game also seems to be a bit easier, so I got to see a few more screens than on the C-64, but still didn't manage to complete it.

Atari 2600

Kaboom! - 808 minutes

High score of the week: 173,654

I was meaning to play some Fishing Derby but didn't get around to it. I will try to play it this week. Also, I have Double Dunk coming in the mail Tuesday.

ATARI 2600:

1) Missile Command (from Atari 7800 Console and Stella) - 55 minutes

2) Pac-Man (from Atari 7800 Console) - 20 minutes

ATARI 5200:

Pac-Man - 435 minutes

This week I spent more and more attempts and resets to reach my greatest feat: complete the 6th key level and then go for 1 million points!

On this version of Pac-Man, the ghosts will flash immediately and never return to normal colors on the 5th, 7th and all the subsequent key levels once Pac-Man eats the first power pill. The monsters will return to normal once Pac-Man eats them. Pay special attention in the video and statistical table provided below.

(note: I used Fast Forward feature during the intermissions, because I was in a hurry)

My times for the week:

NES:
Puzzle - 112 min.
SNES:
The Brainies - 14 min.
Pac-Attack - 589 min.
Carrier Aces - 15 min.
Shaq-Fu - 15 min.
Beat two puzzle games (Pac-Attack and Puzzle), and futzed around with another (The Brainies).
I also beat Shaq-Fu on Normal and tried to make sense of Carrier Aces, a cousin to Air Cavalry that uses airplanes instead of helicopters.
