The weekend is here so that means another Battle of the Ports

Thought you went very easy on the C64 version.

Story behind that shambles:

The Amstrad GX4000 version should of been much better, but without a userbase to justify the time needed to recode the game for the enhanced hardware,  it was never going to happen.

Great video.

Great video.

It's a shame about the original C64 version.  Just imaging a game that looked like it did but with playability.  that would have been amazing.

Ever thought the beloved 16 bit Nintendo console had next to no shooters on it? Well think again. In this 4 part series we will take a look at every commercially available shooter on the system. Part 2 will be released on October 30th 2019

Watched this one last night. Nice work! Looking forward to seeing the upcoming episodes in this series. Japan definitely got A LOT more shooters on the SNES/SFC than we did here in the states, that's for sure!

It's time to take a look at a computer game that was a actually an arcade game first even though it was running on a home computer. Strange. This is the Bitmap Brothers Xenon.

....

I'm not too sure about the Arcade first vs concurrent development.

The opening screen with the copyright is from 1989:

xenonArcade.thumb.JPG.6a598c6484a2217b86c5f7ad5b7d8320.JPG

but that could be the ROM of the Arcadia system itself rather than the game.

Even their own page is not exactly clear which way they went:

it is a very odd situation.  Too much conflicting information regarding this game.

On other news, a new upload of a Mega Drive plug'n play joystick

I also just noticed that the copyright MXMLXXXIX is plain wrong, 1989 is MCMLXXXIX .... it was Mastertronic that built the Arcadia so ....

Edit: In MAME (0.159) though the first copyright notice (from the Arcadia board as it boots) is MCMLXXXIX, it's only on that startup screen that (in MAME) it's reported as MXMLXXXIX .... who knows!

There's an error on this video where the C64 and ZX Spectrum ports are labelled as "Arcade". Sorry. Here's one that you may have never heard of in the arcades but it still managed to get some home ports. Just a shame they're all crap.

Fun Fact: The prototype of the arcade version ran off a Commodre 1541 disk drive!  Why I don't know, but I can't even imagine the reliability issues that must have had.   I'm trying to find where I read about it, but so far I'm coming up empty.

Yakumo, I really appreciated the 2 episodes of Battle of the Ports on Parodius.

Did anyone notice that the PSX and Saturn ports of the first arcade game, Parodius Da!, on the first level, the palm trees do not animate when the pirate ship cat boss is flying near them?  The trees do not animate in the Sharp X68000 version either, however they do somewhat in the Super Famicom version.

The RG-350 promises many great points. True 60htz screen with v-sync. Glass screen, fast emulation and HDMI video out. Just how good is it? Let's take a look. If you'd like to buy your own RG-350 you can pick one up at TomTop for 85.99 as of this video going live - https://www.tomtop.com/p-f1996b.html
