Great video. It's a shame about the original C64 version. Just imaging a game that looked like it did but with playability. that would have been amazing.
Yakumo1975
Ever thought the beloved 16 bit Nintendo console had next to no shooters on it? Well think again. In this 4 part series we will take a look at every commercially available shooter on the system. Part 2 will be released on October 30th 2019

Looking forward to seeing the upcoming episodes in this series. Japan definitely got A LOT more shooters on the SNES/SFC than we did here in the states, that's for sure!
Yakumo1975
It's time to take a look at a computer game that was a actually an arcade game first even though it was running on a home computer. Strange. This is the Bitmap Brothers Xenon.

The opening screen with the copyright is from 1989: but that could be the ROM of the Arcadia system itself rather than the game. Even their own page is not exactly clear which way they went: http://www.bitmap-brothers.co.uk/our-games/past/xenon.htm

Too much conflicting information regarding this game. On other news, a new upload of a Mega Drive plug'n play joystick

I also just noticed that the copyright MXMLXXXIX is plain wrong, 1989 is MCMLXXXIX .... it was Mastertronic that built the Arcadia so .... Edit: In MAME (0.159) though the first copyright notice (from the Arcadia board as it boots) is MCMLXXXIX, it's only on that startup screen that (in MAME) it's reported as MXMLXXXIX .... who knows! Are the more modern versions an improvement upon the original? Let's take a look.

Now it's time to take a look at Xenon II, a game that may be effected by rose tinted glasses than many others out there.
Yakumo1975
There are so many Famicom clones on the market and let's be honest, most are awful. This one however I actually like.

Yakumo1975
There's an error on this video where the C64 and ZX Spectrum ports are labelled as "Arcade". Sorry. Here's one that you may have never heard of in the arcades but it still managed to get some home ports. Just a shame they're all crap. Fun Fact: The prototype of the arcade version ran off a Commodre 1541 disk drive! Why I don't know, but I can't even imagine the reliability issues that must have had. I'm trying to find where I read about it, but so far I'm coming up empty.

ParallaxUltra
Yakumo, I really appreciated the 2 episodes of Battle of the Ports on Parodius. Did anyone notice that the PSX and Saturn ports of the first arcade game, Parodius Da!, on the first level, the palm trees do not animate when the pirate ship cat boss is flying near them? The trees do not animate in the Sharp X68000 version either, however they do somewhat in the Super Famicom version.

Yakumo1975
Zool was a game Amiga fans loved and even went as far as saying it was the Sonic The Hedgehog killer. Was it? I doubt it but let's take a look
