HSC13 R18: Ghost Encounters & Ghostly Bonus

Recommended Posts

Ghost Encounters

I've long tried to sneak in a JV Software game and now it's happened! With seasonally good timing too. Ghost Encounters is a nice game and a bit different so lets see how we do ;) [edit] Looks like it levels up after each is completed.

Download Atarionline.pl XEX and ATRs - The OS/B version works (may need to use the translator disk). Fandal's XEX version is broken: you can't dig! [i've let him know]

Controls: Joystick plus Keys [T]orch, pade, [K]ey, [M]agnet, [H]ammer, and the Cursor Arrows make you into a stick! [G]host

Info not much on Atarimania but a nice Compute Review (atarimagazines.com) is a good start point plus the level 1 map on post #10. If you get stuck this video has the first 2 levels, and if you get really stuck Video Game Fanatic' Blog Guide

Also some info on atriage's Ghost Encounters/Action Quest/Castle Hassle thread :)

Ghost! and Ghost II

ghost_ii.png

Just to be confusing we are not playing Ghost the predecessor to Ghost II but now I want to add an exclamation mark so I type this bit to save confusion see?!

Bonus Games

Ghost

Download Fandal XEX

Info Atarimania ...rave.N said "Very very cute and somewhat annoying. Like a game of Inverse Pac-Man." sounds like this will be right up our street! Shepherd the ghosts into the gap at the top whilst stopping them crashing into each other.

Ghost II

Download Fandal ATR

Info Also somewhat annoying!! Reviewed in a Pro© Atari Magazine #7 and covered in my "Replay" column in Issue #9. I thought it was fairly decent - shameless plug: you should all be supporting Pro© Mag - it's cheap and only 4 issues a year, so please get all the back issues they are not dated and support this Atari venture :)

Round Ends Sunday 20th November

Everyone Welcome to Play ;-)

I reckon the hardest screen in the game of Ghost Encounters is "Look the Other Way". Master that and your in the running :-)

Anyone know of any Artillery games on the XL, like pocket tanks, worms etc. Perhaps something for theme ?

I remember typing one in from mag/book when I was a kid, have long forgotten the name. The book had machine code wild west game you could type in, never attempted that one.

Outlaw/Howitzer? Type in "Wild West" (we played this in one of the paddles games rounds)?

So, I had a stab at Ghost Encounters. Been ages. But either I am missing something, or there is an issue with this file one real hardware. In the pirates treasure room you are suppose to use the shovel form to dig, right? At least, that's what I remember.

It doesn't work. Tried it on two different Atari systems. The shovel makes the noise it is supposed to, but doesn't dig, no matter what I do/press. This was tested on a stock 130XE and an 800XL with an Ultimate1mb.

Am I just missing something? Or is this an actual file/compatibility issue?

Version provided by trbb is broken and there is no way to use shovel (tested on Altirra and AtariWin800). I took another one from AtariOnline.

Thanks, I knew I was barking up the right tree. I'll have a go at this version.

Thanks Dope  I've updated the first post.

There are some other XEX's on atarionline.pl too, if anyone can confirm if they are ok I will let Fandal know :)

Apart from finding the best version of Ghost Encounters there are 5 skill levels (select) to have a go at. I'm assuming it ends at the end of the 15 mins on each and gives the ranking screen.

Ghost II - 2,790 (level 3) nice game I need to read my own review but it's hold fire then release to fly (sort of Whirlinurd style), collect the little ghost children!

RedThunder - Another game with a lob stuff at angles is Michael Jones' Battle Trivial (final castle game) and how about that "T-34 the Battle" Tank 2 players head to head (130XE only):

Ok the Ghost Encounter OSB ATR works (spade ok/10 men only) on my 130XE with the translator loaded...

Confession time I'm stuck on Level 1's "Tight Squeeze" same as devwebcl?! - (have done the other screens) score 03/00. Rank Gruesome! From the video looks like you can change into a thin bar somehow? Hint Please :dunce:

...

"The ghost can transform into eight different shapes which assist in solving the puzzles..."

Eight?!! OK Added a load more links for Ghost Encounters to the 1st post. Including someone's blog which is a spoiler apart from the first Tight Squeeze bit :ponder: I've had to look at the video to see you can transform into a bar using the cursor arrow keys so this is what you need to do!
