Was there a thread about this? Google-fu isn't working for me.

In Ange Vierge series (12 episodes anime) I spotted 2 different classic consoles.

First up is a scanning device that looks suspiciously like Sega Game Gear with a TV adapter:

Second one looks suspiciously like a Dreamcast:

In the anime Asobi ni Iku Yo! series there's a few consoles in a game shop including PC-FX, Dreamcast with too many ports, spice orange Gamecube, and I think a CDi on steroid?

Hunter x Hunter had a few game consoles but none resembled known consoles although the main console used in the Greed Island and Yorktown arc was interesting. Dual drive, 2 memory ports, and 4 controllers ports that looks like standard PSX. The memory card also looked like standard PSX and could be expanded to 8 memory slots per slot.

Monster Rancher featured PSX.

Baka to Test had Famicom (classic)

Ah My Goddess has a lot of consoles and it looks like hacker heaven! Famicom, SFC, PC Engine, Genesis, PSX, and a few more unidentified consoles.

The car in Knight Rider has a built in Intellivision and Atari 800.

Knight Rider "Deadly Maneuvers" s1e3 oct 1982

Intellivision "Auto Racing"; he's using a joystick; Auto Racing would be easier with a thumb-pad.

Knight Rider s1e21 "Nobody Does it Better" apr 1983

Intellivision "Space Battle"; "stimulate strategic thinking"; some arcade game cabinets Qbert, Alpine Ski, and Jungle Hunt

Knight Rider "Soul Survivor" s2e9 nov 1983

Atari 800 "Pac-Man"

SCTV Merv The Special Edition 1982

Intellivision starts at about 8:15 in this clip

Some movie called The Wizard supposedly has a reference to a game or two in it.

In the movie Breakdown (with Kurt Russell), there is a scene near the end where a young boy is playing a home console version of Doom. I want to say it was the SNES version, but it's been so long since I've seen the movie, I can't remember for sure.

A magical world where even the arcade versions are on NES hardware. I didn't even notice it as a kid :D

I also remember an X-Files episode where they are in an arcade and you can clearly hear Sonic ring sounds in the background, several times.

Darn, somebody already beat me to the boxed Inty II's from that 70's show, which is amazing because I just happened to be watching it on Netflix. Anyways, here's a proper image of it:

... way ahead of their time considering that the episode takes place in 1978...

Anyways, there's more such sightings in other places. Some contemporary- for example, this (blurry, because my digital copies are low rez) screenshot of the Married With Children episode Get the Dodge Outta Hell where a boxed late-model Intellivision is seen among cheapo clearance items at Traugott's Car Wash in the 90's:

...and of course the Tale of the Crimson Clown episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark must truly take the prize, for it has an NES, Genesis hard case (with fake game art) and a row of TG-16 games:

At least the Alf bit has the right sound effects and they used a joystick with a button on top to work better with the puppet.

Yeah, one thing I noticed on old movies and tv shows (haven't seen/heard this happen lately) is that no matter what they are playing, it has Atari 2600 Pac Man sound effects.

ALF playing Space Invaders on the Atari 2600.

That was cool but would of been better with the original controllers. Unless it was hard for him to hold some one else mentioned. Did not think about that. But still would of been cool. Cool to know however they had third party like those back in the day. I don't remember seeing too many.

It's likely because it was cheaper for movies/series producers to buy the licence for those sounds and reuse them at nauseam rather than recording the real game sounds displayed.. if they even displayed real game graphics anyway and not some pre recorded animation.

I mean, in a world where Hollywood dub the sound of a car door being closed rather than use the read thing, how do you expect them to use and play the real game and sounds?

Yeah, I always figured they did it because they considered them to be some kind of stereotypical video game noises. I just always laughed when I saw this. Might not even show a screen, but they might be holding an NES pad but had the bonk bonk bonk babooip of 2600 pacman. Kind of like how it doesn't seem to matter what bird of prey is shown on screen, they put in the sound of a red tailed hawk.

Edit: Except an owl. They actually have owl sounds.
